WATCH: This was WWE's biggest mistake with Kane

Kane is known for his unique character, and long-standing career in the WWE. He made an impactful debut in 1997, as The Undertaker's younger brother. He wore a mask, which made him different from everyone else on the roster. But one of the most controversial moments in his career was when he was unmasked in 2003. This decision had several significant negative consequences, which disappointed many fans, and harmed Kane's character in the long run.

The Big Red Machine's masked character was built on an aura of mystery and intimidation. His face was never revealed, and fans were left to speculate about what he might look like under the mask. The unmasking removed this mystique. After the unmasking, he lost much of the psychological edge he had as an enigmatic, monstrous character. He was no longer as terrifying as he once was. The unmasking ultimately diminished Kane's legacy. While he continued to be a successful wrestler, the aura of his character never fully recovered. His character had already gone through several changes before 2003, but the unmasking was perhaps the most significant, and damaging transformation.
