What could the future hold for Shawn Michaels?
If the WWE was lacking a newsworthy pay-per-view to stimulate their ratings, then that’s what the company got with Hell in a Cell. And the show was stolen by none other than Mr. WrestleMania himself with his apparent heel turn.
Shawn Michaels, who was the special guest referee in the match between Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton, sold a great ref bump before knocking out Bryan with his legendary super kick and as a result he has left the fans scrambling for more. With WrestleMania in the corner the fans won’t be disappointed either as the WWE will be pushing for one last bow from the great.
Michaels left the limelight on a high last time around with the Career vs. Streak epic battle against the Undertaker at WrestleMania 26. And will not be looking for anything less if he is to return to the ring. Being heavily involved in the corporate angle paves many possibilities, which offers mouthwatering prospect for the fans and a ratings boost for the company.
The worst has to be said first as there is still a slim chance of Michaels returning to retirement, but let’s be optimistic here. First of all, he knocked out Bryan giving a possible feud between the two. A WrestleMania match with Michaels could propel Bryan to heights that he hasn’t yet dreamed of. Though Bryan is unlikely to get a win in the match spending the limelight with a legend could be enough for him to cement his spot as a main eventer. The storyline could also work as student against teacher showdown and will fit in well with the heel turn of Michaels.
As for Michaels, Bryan might not be a worthy opponent for him to come out of retirement (will come back to this soon). And the next possibility that lingers is Michaels being the special guest referee (surprise) in the match between Triple H and Daniel Bryan. Like the previous one this could also cement Bryan’s future and seal the career of Triple H as a wrestler, but the thing is who wants to see Shawn Michaels as a special guest referee again? Or who wants to see Triple H ending his career against Bryan? Very few I assume.
And it all boils down to one match: Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H for one last time.
Michael needs a legend to face when he comes out of retirement and Triple H needs to end his career in ring to concentrate on his office works. Could the setting be any better?. The two has produced some extraordinary matches in the past but hasn’t yet squared off in the grandest stage of them all, which adds the icing to the cake.
And a further hint was dropped recently in Raw when Michaels said this:
“He is my best friend. I know you don’t like him and they don’t like him. I don’t care. Triple H is my best friend. And that’s never going to change. Our friendship will always supersede what happens in this business,” And who could be better to end Triple H’s career than his best friend.
If it is to happen at the 30th anniversary of WrestleMania, the match is going to be the ticket seller for the show and the duo could end everything once and for all, then go off to the sunshine and enjoy a beer afterwards.
And if Triple H wants what’s best for business then what he needs to look at is one last dance with the Heart Break Kid inside the squared circle. The match promises to produce explosions loud enough to make the fans deaf and make the revenues surge, but with WWE you never know, we might even have another Undertaker and Shawn Michaels showdown. Maybe that’s why we love professional wrestling, for its pure unpredictability.
