What happened when Goldberg appeared on The Grand Tour?
The Grand Tour is a British motoring television series which is aired on Amazon Prime Video. In fact, it the most watched TV Show on Amazon Prime Video. Hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. It is a mixture of pre-taped racing segments and live audience segments. In the 7th episode of the 2nd season, which aired on 19th January 2018, none other than WWE's Bill Goldberg was a guest on the show.
What many fans might not know about Goldberg is that he is an avid car collector. He owns more than 25 vintage cars, including a Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible, Shelby Cobra 427, and a Mustang Boss 429 "Lawman" (one of the two cars used in the Vietnam War to entertain the U.S. Army).
One of the segments on the show is a celebrity face-off, in which Goldberg appeared alongside professional boxer Anthony Joshua. This particular segment was humorously titled 'Who is the fastest person in the world who earns a living from punching and strangling other men?'.
Goldberg spoke about a variety of things on the show. When asked about wrestling he started off by saying that wrestling is 'pre-determined', which caused quite a stir amongst the audience and even earned a gasp of surprise from Anthony Joshua himself. However, Goldberg, cool as a cucumber, assured everyone present that he had already mentioned the same on The Jay Leno Show 20 years ago, so it is not really a big deal. He went to explain that, just because it is pre-determined, it is not really an easy job.
"You know, I like to tell people it's pre-determined, OK. You know who's gonna win, you know who's gonna lose, how long the match is supposed to be. But when I wrestled The Giant (The Big Show), he weighed 525 pounds. And when I picked him upside down, it didn't mean, since it was 'pre-determined', that he was any lighter. It didn’t mean that when he picked me up and threw me through the ground, that it was gonna be softer. You know it is gonna happen, but it doesn't decrease the pain."
He also spoke about his return to wrestling in 2017 after a gap of 12 years. Goldberg talked about the insane training that he went through to get in shape for his return. He revealed that he used to consume 15,000-20,000 calories per day and hit the gym three times a day.
Then, coming to the racing segment of the show, both Anthony Joshua and Goldberg raced their cars to see who the faster one was. As it turned out, Joshua out-raced Goldberg, finishing the lap at 1:18.7 while Goldberg took 1:20.4 to complete.
Thus, the segment ended with Joshua being crowned 'The world's fastest person who makes a living punching or strangling other men'.
