What if Becky Lynch defends both titles separately at each WWE PPV?

Becky Lynch is in the unusual position of holding the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships. WWE has had dual champions before. Four years ago, Seth Rollins held the WWE and US Championships simultaneously. Steve Austin and Triple H each had a singles title to go with the Tag Team Championship they shared in 2001. Talents including Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett, and D’Lo Brown held the hybrid Euro-Continental title(s) back in the Attitude Era.

Lynch is the first woman to hold two titles concurrently, though, in part because there are relatively few times in WWE history when there were multiple women’s titles on the line, let alone when any of them meant as much as these two titles do now.

WWE doesn’t seem moved to unify the titles, keeping the two belts and, for the time being, keeping two distinct women’s rosters between Raw and SmackDown. So what if Lynch not only carries both titles, but defends them both on PPV in separate matches? This article takes a look at that possibility.

#3 Lynch shores up her legacy as The Man

Winning titles is one thing; consistently defending twice a night could be historic.

No woman has regularly worked multiple PPV matches in a night, in part, because so few women have the in-ring talent, conditioning, or popularity to pull off that feat, and for fans to want to see it. Lynch is on the short list of the most popular female talents WWE has ever had, and as she demonstrated in her virtuosic two-match performance at the Royal Rumble PPV—losing to Asuka, then winning the Rumble itself—she can command an audience’s attention and energy across more than one performance. Moreover, she’s capable of selling appropriately, to remind fans of the damage she’s already incurred en route to her second bout.

Working two title defenses per PPV for a bit would confirm Lynch as a unique talent both in kayfabe and in reality. The Man is special and this would be an impressive, quantifiable way of further establishing her as an all-time great.
