What If The Rock Didn't Get Injured at Wrestlemania 29?
The year is 2013 and the event is Wrestlemania 29. The Rock is WWE Champion and John Cena is his challenger, in what was dubbed "Twice in a LIfetime" by many fans. Cena won the title that night but the bigger story was that The Rock suffered torn muscles and tendons in his pelvis and little did people know how much that injury affected things.
The rumour back then was that the next night on RAW The Rock was going to come out and Brock Lesnar -- who faced Triple H at Wrestlemania 29 -- would attack him and that would begin the build to a match between the two at Wrestlemania 30.
If Rock wasn't injured and that match took place as planned, it's possible that The Undertaker, who Lesnar faced at Wrestlemania 30 instead, would still have had his streak intact going into Wrestlemania 33 and Roman Reigns might have been the person to end the streak instead. That is the biggest implication but there are some other things that might have been different as well.
The first person to look at is the person The Rock faced that night - John Cena. Cena would have still won the title and his 2013 would have still gone the way it did, but instead of facing Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania it was rumoured and hinted that Cena would have faced Undertaker at Wrestlemania 30.
This is the match many fans wanted to see and Wrestlemania was probably the perfect place to have it at. Undertaker was still in decent shape at that time and the only reason he had a bad match with Lesnar was probably because he suffered a concussion early in the match.
His matches with Lesnar at Summerslam and Hell in a Cell were much better than their Wrestlemania match. While it's tough to tell if Cena would have ended the streak, I feel The Undertaker would have left New Orleans with his streak intact.
The other person Rock's injury could have affected was The Undertaker. If Rock didn't get injured at Wrestlemania 29 and faced Lesnar at Wrestlemania 30 then the Lesnar-Undertaker feud wouldn't have happened and he probably would have faced John Cena instead. This begs the question "What would Undertaker have done after Wrestlemania 30 if he didn't feud with Lesnar?" and "Who would Undertaker have faced at Wrestlemania after 30?"
If the Lesnar-Undertaker feud didn't happen I still feel like nothing much really would have changed and he would still have faced Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania 31, even though it would have been better if Undertaker had faced Sting, who debuted in WWE in November of 2014, at the event.
The difference is that The Undertaker would have taken more time off after his match with Wyatt and the Summerslam and Hell in Cell matches wouldn't have taken place. At Wrestlemania 32, there was another rumour that The Undertaker was going to face John Cena at the event, but a lot of superstars got injured and The Undertaker ended up facing Shane McMahon at the event instead, and Cena returned to save The Rock from an attack from the Wyatt Family.
At Wrestlemania 33, The Undertaker would still have faced Roman Reigns but this time he still would have had his streak and Reigns would have been the one to end it. Can you imagine the heat Reigns would have right now if he was the one to end the streak and not Lesnar? Considering how unpopular he was before facing The Undertaker he would have NUCLEAR heat if he was the one to end the streak.
Many people may not have thought of these things back then and maybe they don't even think about it now, but I think it's fun to sit back and think "What If?"
