What impact did Jack Swagger's return make?
The all American Jack Swagger made his unanticipated return to SmackDown, or did he? Jack Swagger’s music hit as Booker T was almost going to announce the final member of the Elimination Chamber. Now, when a wrestler returns, the first thing that we would notice is the crowd’s reaction and frankly, the crowd looked confused. They weren’t sure as to whether they should boo him or support him as it seemed that the crowd had forgotten if Swagger was a heel or face. But later on, after Swagger started speaking, he managed to get some attention.
Now, did Jack Swagger’s return mean anything to the present status of WWE? The answer is an outright NO. Jack Swagger’s return was not only boring but also a huge ‘fail’. There are many reasons for that. To start with, Swagger was made to return on a show and that too on SmackDown. Everyone knows that SmackDown is taped and spoilers are quite common for this show. Hence, his return wasn’t a surprise at all. Had he made a return in a PPV like Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber for that matter, his return would have seemed much more dramatic and whatever WWE is planning to do with him, would have looked convincing.
Next, Jack Swagger’s return wasn’t well directed. Why did Swagger leave WWE in the first place? Not many remember the reason. Swagger left because he felt WWE wasn’t heading in the right direction. Now that he has returned, has there been a change? If yes, then how? WWE should have shown some relevant reason behind his return.
Jack Swagger went out of WWE when AJ was the GM and he didn’t seem to care much about Ziggler or her presence. Though WWE could take the storyline that way, his return should have been related to this straight away. Or WWE could have used Swagger against Cesaro, turning him face, especially since Cesaro feels no American can beat him for the title.
Despite the presence of several scenarios, WWE simply chose Swagger to return and ask for an Elimination Chamber spot. Swagger however looks extremely fit and he seems to have become a lot aggressive than before. His match against Kofi Kingston was good and WWE did the right thing by giving him the victory.
Swagger is an extremely good prospect and one of the finest technical wrestlers in the roster today. When he left, there were doubts about his career. Now that he is back, let us hope that we get to see an interesting feud and hopefully, he gets a big say in the Elimination Chamber match that I suppose he will be a part of.
