What the WWE needs to make Cena do before ending his main event career
Who is the face of WWE?
According to Randy Orton it’s the mere reflection that he sees in the mirror every morning. For the fans, it’s none other than the flying goat Daniel Bryan himself, for the creative, it’s Batista (believe it or not). And for Triple H, well he doesn’t even have an idea on what he is doing in a suit and tie.
Amidst all these names one big names that has been buried is that of John Cena. Despite not been labeled as the “face” of the company by anyone, Cena still is the most popular star in the roster, and that’s a fact that everyone should learn to live with.
The fans might be arguing by now that the future belongs to stars like Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt with a need of Cena stepping aside becoming a necessity. There is a point there in that arguments as well to be frank since Cena’s character has been stale for so long now that most of the fans lost count of the years.
Fans booing Cena and cheering the younger breed is a clear indication of the winds changing and Cena being pushed aside into the mid card situation for the main event is the start of the changing landscape.
Cena, who has been involved in the WrestleMania main events for every year in and year out, will probably, be pitted up against Bray Wyatt in an undercard situation this year. And this throws in a burning question for everyone out there.
Is John Cena’s Main Event Career done?
It’s easy to wrap up the question by saying that yes, Cena should stop wrestling and go to Hollywood like The Rock and Steve Austin but the fact is there is still some big matches and surprises that’s left in Cena before he finally decides to hang his boots.
One of the most anticipated things from Cena that hasn’t happened yet is a heel turn and the company would want to milk the maximum out of that before they push him out of the main event picture. Being a baby face for a quite arguably his whole career, a heel turn will clearly be something refreshing to save the stale character of Cena.
Being the biggest polarizing star in the WWE, Cena could easily pull off a heel turn with his eyes closed. The company will also benefit from this since they will have a big heel in the roster to put up against the faces backed by the fans.
His heel turn could serve as a catalyst for the remaining two things that he hasn’t done yet without which he couldn’t go out in peace.
The first thing which could go hand in hand with the heel turn is a feud with Daniel Bryan.
Bryan and Cena only had one match in a major pay-per-view and the company is yet to utilize these resources more leaving them open for a future clash. With the immense fan backing that Bryan has been getting over the year, it will be a blessing for the creative if they decide to turn Cena heel.
The feud between Bryan and Cena could be capped off with a series of intense matches with some well worked booking. Put some title on Daniel Bryan and make Cena the title chaser and we have ourselves a combination that could sell tickets.
It will also benefit Bryan more as the fans clearly want to see him involved with the title rather than Kane.
The second and most exciting thing that Cena literally needs to do before the limelight stops is to take a shot at Undertaker’s streak.
There wouldn’t have been a better year to pull that off than this year but unfortunately the creative had other funny plans for Taker thus wasting a great opportunity.
But there is always next year unless Lesnar botches a move and breaks Taker’s bone somehow.
The match between Cena and Taker has to happen at WrestleMania next year since both the wrestlers are moving closer to the twilight of their careers.
If Cena’s health allows him to stay in the scene, he could even be the one to end the streak making him a bigger star than everyone who ever stepped into that squared circle. There are no doubts to whether he deserves it or not as Cena single handedly lifted the company during most of the slumps of PG era.
A Taker- Cena clash will be more than enough to make the fans believe that the streak might finally come to an end and having Cena’s career on the line would also make things more interesting.
Apart from these, if Shawn Michaels returns for one more match, the choice of opponent could always be Cena since the two hasn’t squared off at a very big stage. The returning Kurt Angle and Triple H in the Authority could also provide credible feud for the Cenation leader. But the main three possibilities said above rings more bell than the others.
So for everyone out their wondering whether Cena’s main event career is coming to an end following a midcard booking in WrestleMania, well think again.
