What was Vince McMahon's greatest mistake in WWE? Former WCW champion sheds light
Vince McMahon has become a notorious figure in recent times. With many of his wrongdoings coming to light in the Mr. McMahon Netflix series and the serious allegations against him, it's safe to say he's made many mistakes. That said, these mistakes are all outside the confines of the squared circle. With that in mind, what was his greatest mistake in WWE? A former WCW champion has shared his two cents.
While Vince Russo may have only been WCW World Heavyweight Champion once, his expertise in the wrestling world is vast. Working as a writer in various promotions, such as WWE, has provided him with valuable insights into the industry's operations. During a recent appearance on The Coach & Bro Show, he shared his opinion with co-host Jonathan Coachman about Vince's most significant error in the Stamford-based promotion: handing the keys to his daughter.
According to Russo, Vince McMahon's greatest mistake was putting Stephanie McMahon in charge of the company's creative team. He theorized that The Billion Dollar Princess probably took the job he once held following his departure. And in his opinion, Vince—being the doting father that he is—couldn't fire her, let alone call out her inability.
"I always say this was Vince McMahon's greatest mistake when it came to the business, forget about the mistakes he made outside the business. Bro when he put Stephanie in that creative role, she more or less replaced me when I left. Bro, when he put her in that creative role, no matter how bad she was, bro, he wasn't going to leave egg on the face of his own daughter. I mean he couldn't do that, he couldn't say, 'You suck at this, I need to replace you,'" said Vince Russo.
Everyone has the right to their own perspective, and only Vince McMahon knows if he feels remorse for his choice. Looking back, things always seem clearer, and one certain thing is that Stephanie McMahon has greatly influenced WWE as we know it today.
Vince McMahon was not happy with the Netflix docuseries
The docuseries on Netflix called Mr. McMahon caused a stir in the world of professional wrestling and entertainment. It provided a glimpse into the success and downfall of a brilliant mind in the world of wrestling. That being said, as with any production, the docuseries is open to interpretation, and Vince McMahon wasn't a fan.
Taking to X just hours prior to the release of the series, McMahon shared his thoughts. He claimed that while he had no regrets about filming the documentary, he was unhappy with the final product. He felt that Netflix had a chance to tell an objective story but instead chose to "distort the viewers' perception and support a deceptive narrative."
As mentioned earlier, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But, based on this response and experience, it's safe to say that Mr. McMahon is unlikely to participate in another project with Netflix.
