When will John Cena emerge as the Unified Champion?
John Cena lost his World Heavyweight Championship to Randy Orton at TLC and along with that a chance to become WWE’s Unified Champion. The result came as a shock to many fans because everyone was aware about the preference John Cena gets in main event matches. Plus, the “historic” way in which this match was built made the fans assume that John Cena will win the match because of his track record in such scenarios where the winner makes history in the WWE. But Randy Orton’s current push as the “face” of the WWE overpowered Cena’s track record to help “The Viper” emerge as the winner at TLC.
The very next night on Raw, Cena was again knocked down by the WWE Heavyweight Champion alongside Daniel Bryan. This made the fans wonder if John Cena will get a one-on-one match against Orton or will he also face Daniel Bryan in a triple threat match for the Championship. Daniel Bryan cannot be included in this equation with Orton and Cena yet, because he didn’t win against The Wyatt’s at TLC, and that’s why his feud with them isn’t over yet and coming out as the loser at the end of this feud will only represent Bryan as a mid-card wrestler and his character might get buried like Dolph Ziggler’s. So, an Orton-Cena sequel at Royal Rumble is the only strong possibility.
A rematch with Orton doesn’t guarantee that John Cena will emerge victorious this time. A pinfall win will surely make Cena the Champion again, but the other possibilities suggest that Cena after losing the title match at Royal Rumble can enter the Battle Royal but even if this happens he won’t win the Rumble because he has already won it last time and once more in 2008; three Rumble wins for Cena can’t happen this soon. Losing out both his matches at Royal Rumble will surely leave Cena in a vulnerable position in the WWE and apparently reduce his chances to main event WrestleMania.
But, before the 30th anniversary of WrestleMania we have got the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Cena will definitely be one of the 6 men who will enter the chamber and this pay-per-view would be the right time for Cena to win the WWE Heavyweight Championship and then at WrestleMania he would defend the title against the winner of the Royal Rumble in a one-on-one match. Randy Orton could also be involved in this match to make it a triple threat match as he will be fresh out of his title loss. The Royal Rumble winner who will form the third part of this triple threat match could be CM Punk or Daniel Bryan. Both are former WWE and World Champions and have never won the Royal Rumble. A triple threat match involving the best wrestlers of the WWE for the WWE Heavyweight Championship would certainly raise the stakes and deliver one of the best matches at WrestleMania.
So, even if John Cena loses his title rematch at Royal Rumble, there will be time for him to win the Unified Championship and defend it at WrestleMania which would then stage one of the best championship matches that would ever happen in the WWE, courtesy of John Cena.
