Who has had a better face turn: Del Rio or The Miz?
Two of the most prominent heels of WWE, Miz and Alberto Del Rio, recently turned face. Both these wrestlers are quite exceptional in the ring and have a great skill over the mic as well. Miz perhaps is better on the mic, and gave fans a lot of expectations as news spread that he was about to turn heel. The question that many are asking now is who is having a better run as a face? Well, if you ask me, I have to go with Del Rio.
While I expected The Miz to do well, Del Rio has surprised me quite a bit in this regard. I, for one, never expected Del Rio to do well as a face as his character and persona suited well to be a heel. However, one main reason why Del Rio has been so successful is because of his personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez. Del Rio has used Ricardo quite well, showing sympathy to him and protecting him from larger opponents. This has gone quite well with the fans, who seem to enjoy his nice and kind attitude.
As for The Miz, his face turn has been extremely awkward. While the heel Miz is generally known to have a lot of command on the mic, whatever Miz says now looks a little too artificial. The gimmick and his style hasn’t glued well together, and maybe he will be able to make amends in the future and improve. His words aren’t properly timed, and it seems as though he is not comfortable with his present role at all. Even Ric Flair’s presence hasn’t made any difference to this.
The Miz’s poor face run, and Del Rio’s success is quite evident from the push both these wrestlers have received. Del Rio is now the Champion, and his run with the title is expected to last till the Elimination Chamber PPV at the least.
WWE however, needs to take into consideration Miz’s lack of success with his gimmick seriously. The Miz is an exceptional talent and his feud with Antonio Cesaro looks just the right platform for him to learn about the things he lacks as a face and try and glue to his gimmick better.
