Why Brock Lesnar Should Win the WWE Championship at SummerSlam
A career defining match for both Brock Lesnar and John Cena is all set to take place at SummerSlam. The WWE Universe is apparently split on the decision of the company to have these two headlining the pay-per-view with good arguments on each side.
One of the biggest argument that is raised against the match is the potential of a part timer like Lesnar walking out of the pay-per-view with the title. The fans have been more than vocal about superstars coming out of nowhere and getting a better booking than the regular roster stars and Lesnar is suffering the same fate.
However, take away that point, and Lesnar is without a glitch, a superstar who deserves to have the title around his waist.
The Taker effect
After building it up for more than two decades, the company gave the honor of ending Undertaker’s legendary streak to none other than the Beast. There were many factors which worked in favor of Lesnar to be the chosen one.
He was someone who could carry the burden of doing such a terrible thing to the fans. He was someone who wouldn’t crumble under the pressure. He was someone who could walk around as the ‘one’ who made the Undertaker moral. If it was any youngster in Lesnar’s place, he would’ve just wasted his career trying to repay the faith that the company showed in him.
Lesnar was the apt one in all aspects and this is one of the reasons why he should win on Sunday. He is surfing on a tsunami of momentum after his folklore win against the Phenom and the last thing that the company would want to do will be to let his win look like a fluke.
Universe Split on Cena
Heyman’s client is coming into SummerSlam after his career defining win against Taker while Cena still struggles to find a balance between the fans who hate him and the ones who love him.
The younger part of the WWE Universe who started seeing wrestling a couple of years back might die to see Cena go home with the title at SummerSlam but it is the remaining portion that the company should be worried about.
They are going to tear down the arena with jeers if the Cenation leader walks out as champion. It would nullify the essence of the streak ending as the one who ended it couldn’t even pull off another victory. At the same time, the company will be exposed to its weakness of always relying on Cena when it comes to big stages like this and using the same Superman formula while booking him.
However, even if the company is able to bypass all these effects, one thing that they would find hard to escape would be the wrath of the Internet community.
The significance of Night of Champions
A year back Night of Champions wouldn’t have been a pay-per-view of any significance in the company. However, since it resides with the WWE Network renewals, this year, Vince McMahon would be looking to play this trump card.
Now Cena being the face of the company heading into the pay-per-view is nothing short of brilliant. He is a movie star; he has been carrying the company for years now. However, all this applies to the WWE fans only. The fans outside of WWE might not see Cena as a big deal as he hasn’t proven himself away from his comfort zone.
In contradiction to that, Lesnar, started his career in WWE and went on to have a successful initial run where he did many things that most of the veterans are yet to do.
The Beast then went on to rule the UFC stage and became a big draw there just like he used to be in the WWE. He has earned a multi-platform fan base with his travels and this is something that the company could use.
Lesnar being the champion and face of the WWE is sure to grab the curiosity of even the most casual fan and will set up a stage for the creative to plant the figures 9.99 in everyone’s heads.
