The Rock on why Chris Jericho house show match was special for him

The Rock recalls one of his favorite matches

In a recent live video stream on Facebook The Rock revealed that one of his favorite matches was against Chris Jericho at a house show in Hawaii.

"It was a house show. No cameras. No nothing. It was in, it was in Hawaii at the Blaisdell Center, which is Honolulu's big arena and I went there, I wrestled Chris Jericho. Hawaii was very special, so that match, that night, the crowd that came out. I wrestled with Chris Jericho - he was my chosen dance partner. I appreciate that. And here's a cool little thing: we sold out the Blaisdell [Center] faster than Elvis Presley."

The Rock explained that the match was so special to him because he got in trouble a lot in his younger years in Hawaii and it represented a tough time in his life. Returning as a success allowed things to come full circle.

“I did a lot of my growing up in Hawaii and all of the years of struggling as a family. I was evicted in Hawaii, we were evicted out of our little efficiency, forced to move, forced to leave Hawaii. My grandfather, years ago, bought the wrestling promotion in Hawaii and he struggled with it. He died struggling. My grandmother took over the wrestling promotion. She became the first woman promoter in pro wrestling in a very cutthroat, shark-infested world. And, anyway, Hawaii always represented so much struggle. I started getting arrested when I was 14 years old, doing a lot of stupid s--t that I shouldn't have been doing. I was, at that time when we got evicted out of our efficiency, I thought it was the worst thing that could ever happen, and, actually, at that time, it was. Now, in hindsight, it was the greatest thing to ever happen because it forced me into this mindset, honestly, for hard work. If I could do anything, I would do everything I could to make sure we never get evicted again.”
