One thing that everyone can agree on at this point is that if CM Punk were to ever return to pro-wrestling, it will, in all likelihood, be inside a WWE ring.
The very fact that The Second City Savior is appearing on WWE programming even after all the bad blood that has brewed between him and the company tells us that Punk is trying to mend fences. And if we know one thing about Vince McMahon and WWE, it is that the man doesn't hold personal grudges for long. Especially when it comes to business, no matter how strained the relationship might be, the company is open to work if there is money to be made.
Vince McMahon has let bygones be bygones on numerous occasions. Names like Bret Hart, The Ultimate Warrior, and Bruno Sammartino, who were at loggerheads with McMahon and the company eventually returned to the product. WWE is well-aware of the value that Punk holds in the business and his return to the squared circle is guaranteed to generate a lot of money if it were to materialize.
Punk, on his part, has become extremely cautious with everything he says ever since he donned the hat of an analyst for WWE Backstage. If Punk were to return, it would most likely be on his terms. At this point, we think that the company might finally give in to Punk's demands, given the fact that he could generate a lot of buzz amidst the fans.
While there are a lot of people on the current roster that the Chicago-native could face, there is one name that I would like to be booked against him in a match and that name, sadly, isn't Seth Rollins. Despite the Beastslayer's recent attempts to drum interest for a potential showdown between him and Punk, I don't think that it is the perfect opponent for Punk's return to in-ring action. Don't get me wrong, the match between the duo would be a sure shot banger. But, there isn't any substantial backstory to build a match of such magnitude.
However, I have another name on my mind and that is, Triple H. HHH Vs Punk is the biggest money match that the company can build for WrestleMania 36, and I believe that the company should try and do everything in its power to make this match happen in the main event of 'Mania next year.
The duo has a long, storied history dating back to almost a decade and a half. It's no secret that Punk and Hunter have a dislike for one another. The Straight-Edge Superstar was highly critical of The Game during his appearance on Colt Cabana's 'Art of Wrestling' podcast. Former WWE announcer and current AEW commentator, Jim Ross also spoke about The Game disliking the idea of Punk receiving a push due to his physical appearance.
Punk was originally scheduled to face off against The Game at WrestleMania 30 before he walked out of the company in 2014. Recently, Triple H was asked whether on not he has spoken to Punk following his appearance on WWE Backstage. The Game said that he hasn't spoken to Punk but was open to the idea of having him return to the company as an in-ring performer.
The best wrestling stories are the ones that have a slice of realism added to it and I believe that the real-life animosity between Punk and HHH would make the build-up to their match would account for an absolutely incredible story-telling. Punk and HHH are two of the best performers in the business when it comes to promos and them going at it against one another on the microphone will be a sight to behold.
Fans have been clamoring for Punk to return to the squared circle for years now and we believe that there hasn't been a better time for Punk to make a return. It's about time that we got to see a proper feud between two of the best of our generation on the 'Grandest Stage of Them All'.
