WWE Rumours: Sasha Banks won the Women's Title on Raw as she had recovered from injury

Banks is a 2-time RAW Women’s Champion

For the third time in WWE history, a women’s match was scheduled to main-event an edition of RAW. As the match was for the RAW Women’s Championship, the fans were expecting a performance similar to that main-event bout of Lita and Trish Stratus.

It certainly lived up to its hype and in the end of an amazing wrestling contest, Sasha Banks emerged victorious.

The return of Women’s action in the main-event of RAW clearly portrays the success of ‘Women’s Revolution’ and the match between Charlotte and Sasha may have increased the possibility of more women wrestling matches as main-events.

In fact, there are rumors which indicate that the rematch for the championship may be contested inside a Hell in a Cell structure at the upcoming RAW exclusive pay-per-view.

However, one question remains unanswered; why did Charlotte lose the Championship in an episode of RAW rather than in a pay-per-view event?

According to several reports, the main reason behind the title change at Summerslam was due to Sasha’s back injury. WWE provided Banks with the opportunity to heal and hence they worked an injury angle during that match at Summerslam.

She was hurt prior the biggest event of the Summer and the company had planned that if she required surgery, they will simply increase her time off from the roster.

After medical consultation, it was revealed that Banks only needed some time to rehab and can be back in the ring very soon. Hence, she returned on the shows within a few weeks and was injected back into the title picture.

That injury was also one of the reasons why WWE proceeded with a triple threat match at Clash of Champions so as to pull the pressure off Sasha.

The original plan had Banks retaining the Championship for a lengthy period, at least up to WrestleMania 33. It can be summed up that the only reason Banks defeated Charlotte at RAW is the fact she was never booked to lose the gold in the first place.

The current plan is an encounter between Sasha Banks and Bayley at the grandest event of sports entertainment, with Bayley walking out as the RAW Women’s Champion. So it is safe to conclude that after Sasha’s victory at RAW, we won’t be witnessing the championship change hands very soon.
