Why did Torrie Wilson leave WWE?
Torrie Wilson is widely considered to be one of the best female wrestlers to never win a Women's Championship. Torrie was part of the wrestling business for almost a decade before she was released from WWE in 2008 but it seems that she left quite the impression on the WWE Universe.
Early years
Torrie came to WWE back in 2001 as part of The Alliance, after already been seen for the past two years as part of the WCW roster. Torrie was seemingly the one who was used by Vince McMahon to prove a point to WCW as she became his latest backstage affair before she was finally allowed to show what she was capable of in the ring.
After coming out of her alliance with Tajiri as a babyface, Torrie went on to team with her real-life boyfriend who later became her husband, Billy Kidman. In late 2002 Torrie started a controversial feud with Dawn Marie, which also included her real-life father who was later killed off in the storyline by Marie whilst consummating their marriage on their wedding night, which was seemingly and thankfully the end of the storyline.
Playboy CoverGirl
Torrie's popularity skyrocketed when it was revealed that she had been chosen to appear on the cover of Playboy Magazine in 2003. Torrie's Playboy magazine has been the reason for a number of her feuds throughout her career, including one with Candice Michelle that took the two women all the way to WrestleMania in 2006. Back in 2003, it was a short-lived feud with Nidia that was picked up by WWE at the time before former Women's Champion Sable made her return to the company.
Sable and Torrie Wilson embarked on a storyline of their own for a number of weeks, which later led to Wilson winning Bikini contest that seemed to end their feud. In 2004, it was revealed that Torrie and Sable had become Playboy cover girls once again, but this time they were part of a joint issue.
This led to a feud between the two women against Stacy Keibler and Miss Jackie who were seemingly jealous that they weren't chosen for the cover. Wilson and Sable won the feud when they defeated the two women in a Playboy evening gown match at WrestleMania 20.
Vince's Devil
Torrie Wilson became a well-known member of the Vince's Devil's stable back in 2005 when she joined forces with Candice Michelle and Victoria as the trio went up against Diva Search winner Ashley.
Trish Stratus later made her return to the company after a year on the sidelines to help even the odds for Ashley before Mickie James then joined the company and appeared to be on Trish and Ashley's side.
After Victoria and Candice turned on Torrie, she and Candice faced off at WrestleMania 22 when Candice's Playboy cover was revealed, before Torrie moved on from the group and became a valet for Carlito.
Final years in the company
WWE began bringing in a lot of new blood in the years that followed, including Beth Phoenix, Kelly Kelly and a number of women who were signed following the annual Diva Search. It seems that Torrie managed to slip down the pecking order because of this but she was still part of a number of matches which included her helping Mickie James' team to victory in her final pay-per-view appearance at Survivor Series in 2008 before her final match on SmackDown where she was able to defeat long-time rival Victoria.
Torrie then took some time away from WWE to heal from a back injury following this match but after six months of inactivity, she was released from WWE on May 8th, 2008.
Life After WWE
Torrie returned for one night only as part of the Miss WrestleMania match at WrestleMania 25 in 2009, but she was eliminated by Beth Phoenix in what was considered to be her last wrestling appearance.
Torrie launched her own clothing line back in September 2007, which was how she spent much of her time when she was on hiatus from WWE. The line was called "Officially Jaded" and Torrie launched it with help from her Spirit Squad boyfriend Nick Mitchell.
Torrie also then made a number of headlines when she began dating New York Yankees baseman Alex Rodriguez but the couple went their separate ways in 2015.
Torrie has since been enjoying life as a web-based fitness instructor and blogger, WWE has featured her on a number of programmes on the WWE Network since she now looks physically in better shape than she was a decade ago when she was still part of the company.
Torrie has made a life for herself outside of WWE and definitely wouldn't fit in with the current Women's Division, she stood out in a time when the company needed their women to just be seen as pretty faces and now she continues to stand out because of her determination and ability. Don't expect Torrie to return to the ring anytime soon though, she may be in shape but it seems that chapter of her life is well and truly closed.
