Why did Donald Trump once buy WWE RAW?
WWE Hall of Famer Donald J. Trump won the 2024 United States Presidential election and will hold the country's highest office for the second time. The 78-year-old has made multiple appearances in the sports entertainment giant over the years.
The latter shares an incredible history with the promotion, most notably during WrestleMania 23, Donald Trump got involved in a high-stakes rivalry against the WWE Chairman at that time, Vince McMahon. The rivalry between these two is popularly known as ‘The Battle of the Billionaires.’
Trump and McMahon had to pick a wrestler to represent them, Vince picked Umaga, and Donald chose Bobby Lashley. The stipulation of the match was the losing billionaire would have to shave their head. The 78-year-old eventually won the challenge and shaved Mr. McMahon’s hair in front of the entire crowd.
In June of 2009, following WrestleMania 23, Donald Trump purchased Monday Night RAW. Trump's purchase of the red brand was part of a short-term storyline, where Vince McMahon initially wanted to sell the flagship show. Trump then bought it out and ran the place according to his will. His decisions cost the company big losses, as he announced commercial-free episodes, fired people, announced celebrity hosts for every week, and more.
After weeks of chaos, Vince McMahon came out and revealed he had purchased Monday Night RAW back at double the price that he sold it to Trump. The short-lived storyline was purely written and designed to attract the mainstream audience. In real life, both billionaires are good friends, and the President proved it after agreeing to be part of the program.
Donald Trump revealed that The Rock reached out to him after he was shot
Earlier this month, Donald Trump was interviewed by WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker ahead of the election. While talking, the 78-year-old politician recalled that he used to always think that The Rock did not like him.
However, he opened up that after an assassination attempt was made on him earlier this year. The Rock reached out to Donald Trump through UFC’s Dana White. Trump noted that The Final Boss praised him for his bravery and told him that what he did was kind of incredible.
It seems like Trump still loves the world of professional wrestling. The Stamford-based company is at its peak, and it will be interesting to see if he will attend any WWE shows in the near future, just like he does with UFC events.
