Why a match against Alberto Del Rio would be bad for Batista's comeback?
“The Animal” Batista is still two days away from his WWE return, but he has already been involved in a feud Alberto Del Rio. These two have been involved in an online rivalry on Twitter. The feud started at the Old School episode of Raw when Alberto Del Rio said that he has grown sick with all the attention that Batista is receiving, and then promised to eliminate “The Animal” in the Royal Rumble match.
Batista talked about Alberto on Twitter: ”So I hear Alberto Del Rio is talking trash. Just one question… Who the hell is Alberto Del Rio?!!!” Both of them then exchanged some more tweets about each other, further fueling their fresh rivalry. And this is how started one of WWE’s latest feuds.
At first, this Batista-Del Rio doesn’t look good at all, but then one can say that Batista is returning to the WWE after nearly four years and so it would be perfect if he starts things off with one of the best superstars of the company, before moving on his quest for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship as it would give him the required momentum. This reason makes sense, but WWE could have easily booked Batista with someone who is more charismatic and exciting than Alberto Del Rio.
There is no doubt that Alberto is a great wrestler, but he definitely isn’t the right choice as Batista’s opponent. A feud with someone like Brock Lesnar could have easily made Batista’s return even more exciting, in fact even Brock himself is booked in a boring feud with the Big Show. Batista vs. Brock Lesnar and Alberto Del Rio vs. Big Show looks much better, wish WWE could know this.
In every way Batista’s return is a big thing and choosing Alberto as his first opponent doesn’t make sense because Alberto has been struggling to make his mark since losing to John Cena. When Batista will record a win over Alberto, the victory won’t be seen as a big one because Alberto has been losing quite often these days. No doubt, Alberto can deliver a good match, but seeing an opponent who could be a threat to Batista would have been much better, it would have looked like a proper contest.
This feud is not bad for just Batista, even Alberto is going to suffer. That is because Alberto himself is going down the pecking order as he hasn’t done anything significant after his feud with John Cena, and a defeat at the hands of Batista would have a bad impact on his already struggling status. And since the titles have been unified, it seems like Alberto will have to wait for a long time in order to have a championship around his waist again. So, no championship and entering in a feud which he will lose is a big blow for the 2011 Royal Rumble winner.
For now, let’s hope that Alberto goes against all the odes and delivers such a performance that makes him the winner despite the loss.
