Why WWE Night Of Champions could be a failure

SummerSlam had to be a success story for the WWE as they were going through a rough phase during that time. The summer’s biggest party lived up to its tag to the core when almost no complaints were raised by the fans regarding the pay-per-view.

Everyone went home happy after SummerSlam but the big problem was yet to come. Following up such a spectacular pay-per-view is not something that he creative would be fond of as it makes the chances of screwing up sky high.

Night of Champions looks to be cursed by this fact. The WWE Universe would be coming into the Bridgestone Arena on 21st September with high expectations but the pay-per-view has all the potential to be a failure.

One match show

Unlike SummerSlam which had a minimum of four top programs to draw the crowd, NOC is depending only on the Lesnar – Cena rematch. It is a big match to be precise and has the potential to attract eyeballs from every corner of the earth.

However, the company will not be able to keep the fans rooted for seeing just one match. All the other matches in the card haven’t been hyped properly and don’t make anyone jump out of their seat with the prospect.

Not building up the midcard properly has been WWE’s biggest headache this year and this will be at it’s epitome on Sunday. And if for some reason, the match between Lesnar and Cena doesn’t work out the pay-per-view would be a complete disaster.

Cena getting the title back from Lesnar for example would probably be the last thing the fans would want but if we go by the rumors, this is what WWE has in their mind. WWE could’ve covered up for their messed up card if they had given a good buildup but that too didn’t happen.

Awful buildup

Just six days before the actual pay-per-view, the company gave away one of the matches on Raw. The match having a clear ending made matters worse as Rollins and Reigns needs to produce a better performance than what they already gave on Raw.

Along with this, WWE also failed to establish the No.1 contenders as a credible threat for the champions.

The Rhodes Brothers have been picking up singles as well as tag losses against the Usos which has left them with no momentum whatsoever. Cesaro on the other hand only had one segment where he looked good while Sheamus got the better of him on other occasions.

Miz has been nothing more than a laughing stock after losing the title at SummerSlam making it almost sure that Ziggler would defend his title successfully. The Divas title scenario also got polluted by inclusion of the Bellas which has now opened up the possibility of Nikki walking away from Night of Champions with the gold around her waist.

And above all these, WWE let their top baby face skip the pay-per-view for other commitments.

Absence of the Lunatic

It’s not every day that two superstars can give a five star match with Lumber jack stipulations. Ambrose and Rollins did just that at SummerSlam and the Lunatic fringe was elevated to the status which once belonged to Daniel Bryan.

This was important for everyone since Bryan was not going to make a return soon. Ambrose would’ve flourished as the rebel heading to Night of Champions but he was pulled from the television for shooting a film.

Ambrose and Rollins would’ve made a compelling program apart from the Cena – Lesnar match. Also, WWE wouldn’t have felt the absence of a top baby face as Reigns does not have the charisma that Ambrose possesses.

Night of Champions has all the potential to be a disaster and hopefully the creative would find something miraculous to save the pay-per-view from sinking.
