Will CM Punk return to WWE via FOX Sports? Scott Stanford discusses (Exclusive)
Ahead of WWE Crown Jewel, we were joined by the host of This Week in WWE, seven-time Emmy Award winner Scott Stanford, for a very special episode of Dropkick DiSKussions.
You can watch the entire show below, where Scott and I discuss two of the major matches happening at Crown Jewel, in Cain Velasquez vs Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman vs Tyson Fury. We also analyze three of the most talked about WWE Superstars right now, and unpack their performance and potential, in "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt, "Shorty G" Chad Gable, and WWE RAW Women's Champion - "The Man" Becky Lynch.
Well, one question I definitely had to ask Scott was, with all the rumors of a CM Punk return to the WWE fold via a FOX Sports hosting gig, what would the 'Best In The World' bring to such a role?
"I don't think anything. I think CM Punk stinks as an announcer and I don't think he's popular at all.
Stanford would then elaborate that he was kidding, before revealing whether he believes CM Punk returning to WWE in any capacity would be a possibility.
"No I'm kidding. Listen, CM Punk, like Triple H said, they never close the doors on things that go on in the past, and the future's the future. I still, to this day, when I was commentating for WWE Superstars, partnering up with CM Punk for a couple of weeks while he was on the injured list - that has to be one of the most fun moments that I've had in WWE, was doing commentary with him."
But what would CM Punk bring to the role?
"I know he's very popular. I know he's had his issues back and forth with WWE management. Whatever conclusion they came to, I don't know the situation as far as high management goes with FOX or WWE, but if those folks got together and wanted CM Punk on that show, or anything WWE-related, and CM Punk wanted to come back and do it, obviously the fans would be thrilled, he would be well received, and I think the guy is fantastic personality-wise. He's fast, he's witty, he's funny, and he's certainly knowledgeable, so if he did decide to come back, I think it would be great.
Could Punk's return see a dream team reunited?
To this day, people still write on social media that they'd like to see CM Punk and Scott Stanford back behind the announce table, because he never called me by the right name. I was Steve, I was Jim, I was Bob. It was just fantastic.
If he ever decided to come back and they wanted to bring him back, all it does is add another level of entertainment to the product.
Personally, I would love to see him back and I think everybody else feels the same way.
I then joked, "He can come back on one condition, as long as he learns your name."
"Right, right, he's got to learn my name and he's got to give me at least a third of what they actually pay him to come back - because I know it'll be a lot."
