It's been almost a year since the Hardy Boyz made their surprise return at last year's Wrestlemania 33 and won the WWE RAW tag team championships. Since then, many have speculated on whether or not Matt Hardy will be performing the popular "broken" character from his most recent stint in TNA.

And now that Jeff Hardy has been inactive for months due to an injury, it seemed at first that Hardy would have a difficult time becoming a relevant figure on Raw as a singles wrestler. However, now that he has finally embraced the "broken" character as "woken" Matt Hardy, the real question is will his gimmick live up to it's potential in WWE?

Many have asked questions on whether WWE will limit Hardy's character on TV due to the scripted nature of their programming and the PG rating.

However, it's worth noting that there have been reports that Vince McMahon apparently admires the gimmick and has given Hardy full creative control of it, which is surprising, to say the least.

But then again, WWE is also somewhat cautious of what content they put out on their programming if something is deemed as offensive. Although that may be the case, keep in mind that the "Broken" character can easily be entertaining and creative even with a family-friendly environment.

It's going to be interesting how WWE is going to move forward with the "broken" gimmick now that Matt Hardy is being pushed as a singles star. Keep in mind Hardy is 43 years old and may not wrestling not much longer.

Even though the "broken" gimmick could potentially be a huge draw for WWE, it really depends on how good WWE books the character and how long Matt Hardy will be around.

As it looks like Hardy is scheduled to work a program with Bray Wyatt, could this end up with Hardy working a single's match with Wyatt at this year's Wrestlemania?
