WrestleMania 29 predictions - Part 3

And now, we’re onto the three biggest matches on the card. Unfortunately, they’re pretty much as predictable as the rest of the card, if not more so.

Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H-If Triple H loses, he must retire

This match means absolutely nothing in the long run. While it might seem like it means something on paper, the fact is that this match is basically set up so that Triple H can get his win back over Lesnar, giving them one match apiece, also likely to set up a third and final encounter down the road this year. Even with the retirement stipulation put in place, here’s the thing: Triple H is mostly retired as is. He had two matches last year, and only a couple more than that the year before. Even if he did lose here, you’d never really notice that he had retired. Therefore, even if he wins here, it won’t matter, because you’ll still only see him do one or two matches a year, if that. Triple H is ensconced in his corporate job with the WWE, and with the task of basically running the company, he simply doesn’t have time to be an active competitor any more. Plus, with his age and worries about his physical conditions, he’s too smart to continue risking potential injury by being an active competitor.

“The Streak”: CM Punk vs. The Undertaker

Honestly, it’s somewhat surprising WWE went through with this match. Although it was rumoured for a long time, and a contract for it had even been seen prior to it being announced, Punk quite honestly isn’t interested. On more than one occasion, he said he didn’t want this match, as it was a foregone conclusion that he would lose (like everyone else), and he doesn’t like being involved in matches that were so predictable. While WWE, Punk and Paul Heyman are trying their hardest to make it seem like The Undertaker’s streak is in doubt, no one is buying what they’re selling, including Punk himself. The second ‘Taker is announced for WrestleMania, the match is over. What once used to be “Who will step up to challenge ‘The Streak’ this year?” has quickly turned into “Who will be added to ‘The Streak’ this year?” There’s nothing fun about matches being ridiculously predictable at all, and while I would absolutely love for Punk to end this stupid streak so we don’t have to hear about it any more, it’s just not happening.

WWE Championship: The Rock (Champion) vs. John Cena

You have a part-time champion going against the face of the company in a rematch from last year. Do I really need to spell it out for you? Cena is winning the belt back, plain and simple. Cena hasn’t had the title since the end of 2011, and heaven forbid he goes much longer without a championship. This is solely made so Cena can get his win back and needlessly hold the championship one more time. I hope that this is a short reign, potentially ended by Punk once more, but considering it’s Cena, I’m not sure.
