John Cena and Samoa Joe have a lot of history between them. Both men have known each other since they worked together at Ultimate Pro Wrestling in the year 2000. The duo became good friends, traveling and working together before John Cena was hired by WWE.

Cena set off on his journey to become WWE's biggest star, and Samoa Joe went on his own path, becoming a legend in his own right, spending most of his time in TNA. However, they continue to remain good friends.

Samoa Joe has stated numerous times that he'd love to face Cena again, and it's a match WWE fans would love to see. The dream match has now been reported to be happening on WWE's biggest show.

Though this match should happen, there are problems WWE has to solve. Most importantly, John Cena is currently on a hiatus due to outside projects, and nobody expects him to return until the week of WrestleMania 35. Hence, WWE needs to come up with something unique to build this rivalry, if they want this to be intriguing.

WWE has numerous ways in which they can build-up to this possible big match. Here, we present 3 possible ways the WWE can build John Cena's encounter with Samoa Joe.

#1 Joe decimates Truth on the Road to WrestleMania

R-Truth was recently on the receiving end of a mini-push, winning the United States Championship in the process. The title reign wasn't long, but he wasn't the one who lost the championship to Joe. It was Andrade who Samoa Joe beat to win the Fatal-4-Way match and title.

R Truth didn't lose the title himself, and he has the right to get a chance to win it back. This opens up a storyline where R-Truth would want to make his “idol” John Cena proud by living up to his “Never Give Up” attitude, attempting to reclaim the United States title.

That's enough reason for Joe to continuously decimate Truth in the upcoming episodes of SmackDown, mocking him and his idol relentlessly. This could set up a championship match between Joe and Cena on the grandest stage. That's bound to be a show-stealer.
