Wrestlers worthy of breaking Undertaker's streak

One of the greatest mascots of Wrestlemania and WWE is without doubt The Undertaker. Undertaker’s nearly reached the end of his career and only has a match or two left. The most priced possession that he holds at this moment is the 20-0 streak at Wrestlemania. As they say, all good things must come to an end so should the streak. Undertaker has given WWE his all and it is time he retired and rested his glorious career. But before he retires, it is wise that he puts over a young wrestler to make him a star. Every wrestler in the past who has left WWE has put over younger talent. Rock put over Lesnar, JBL sold Cena to become the champ that he is today and the list continues.

Based on this trend, it is now clear that one way or the other, the streak is indeed going to end. Now, if the streak is broken, who are the wrestlers worthy of breaking it? Here are two wrestlers who I feel have earned their way to this feat.

1. CM Punk

Now most of you might curse me on this one but frankly speaking, if there is one person who has worked his way to the top of WWE, it is CM Punk. His abilities inside the ring and on the mic make him a complete wrestler. Punk has risen from being a wrestler who cursed at the audience wearing Pepsi Gym Shorts in IWC to the best in the world in WWE today.

According to rumours and provided Undertaker is able to compete in Wrestlemania this year, he is scheduled to face CM Punk. With this potentially being the last match for Undertaker, it is wise that he loses his streak and like several others, retires. Because when you see the Dead Man facing the future of WWE, CM Punk, the best thing you can expect is for Punk to win. A victory for Punk will give him a meteoric push to glory. In fact, it will even be better than him holding the WWE title longer than Sammartino did.

It is quite obvious that WWE has created this angle for a reason. Nobody expected him to hold the WWE title for this long but he did, nobody expected him to come out with the infamous pipebomb on RAW but he did, and hell, nobody today expects him to beat the Undertaker and mark my words, if this match happens, he will. CM Punk’s rise to glory has shown that he will be the next big star of the company, greater than the likes of Cena and the Rock, making him a fitting choice to beat the Undertaker’s streak.

2. Kane

Undertaker’s brother, ‘the big red machine’ Kane has been in the WWE for more than two decades. He has spent more than half of his life giving us some of the best moments of WWE. But the sad part is that Kane today is not the monster that most of us feared in our childhood. Gone are those days when Kane was able to kick out of the Tombstone Piledriver. Giving him a match against Taker and with it the opportunity to end the streak, will be the best way for people to remember Kane in the future.

Kane is also close to 46 and is slowly reaching the end of his career. Though Kane isn’t a young star, he is a star who doesn’t have anything to show after his retirement, he will just be another ordinary wrestler leaving WWE. His 21 years of wrestling career doesn’t have anything as epic as Taker’s streak. Kane deserves everything that Taker deserves in WWE today, if not more. Even if Taker’s streak comes to an end, it will remain one of the greatest feats in wrestling history. If both these wrestlers end their careers after a Wrestlemania match, I feel it will be the most fitting end one can give to the Brothers of Destruction.

Undertaker’s epic run in Wrestlemania will come to an end no matter what. Just like Shawn Michaels ended Ric Flair’s career inside the ring, any of these two wrestlers deserve to end Taker’s streak.
