WWE 205 Live Results: January 15th, 2018
Last week, Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy issued an open challenge to anyone who dared face him. 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick had been mentioning the addition of several names to the roster, and Murphy felt that this would be a good opportunity for one of them to step up.
Would we see the arrival of an NXT or NXT UK star? Could we see the debut of a brand new star? Or would an overlooked cruiserweight look to make a name against the Juggernaut?
Also set for tonight, Lio Rush would take on Lucha House Party member Lince Dorado. Rush felt that he was cheated out of the Fatal-4-Way match at the Royal Rumble, and planned on making an example out of the Golden Lynx.
Lio Rush vs Lince Dorado
Rush opened the show with a promo, declaring the show "Lio-5 Live." Rush said that he didn't come here to party and make friends, but to win, and pointed to Bobby Lashley, the man he helped make the new Intercontinental Champion.
Rush said he should've been the new Cruiserweight Champion at the Royal Rumble, but Dorado and Gran Metalik took that from him.
Rush attacked Dorado prior to the match, but the Golden Lynx took over once the match began, taking the fight to Rush. A spinning heel kick followed by several chops stunned the Man of the Hour, and a suplex put him down for a one-count.
Rush fought out of the corner but managed to get on Dorado's bad side by slapping him in the face. A tilt a-whirl-backbreaker nearly put Rush away, but he managed to kick out. Dorado went for the Shooting Star Press, only for Rush to escape to the apron. Rush kicked Dorado into the steel post, then caught him in the right knee as Dorado ran back at him, sending him crashing to the ground.
A springboard moonsault to the outside took Dorado out, and really put the 23-year-old piece of gold back in the game. Back in the ring, Dorado kicked out at two. Rush kept Dorado locked down in the middle of the ring with a headlock and body scissors. Dorado broke out, but Rush kept the pressure on him, bringing him back to the ground with a suplex into a crossface.
Dorado broke out again, stunning Dorado with a jawbreaker. Following up with a dropkick and a bulldog, Dorado began to build momentum. He went for the Golden Rewind but was rolled up by Rush into a roundhouse kick to the head. Dorado kicked out at two.
Rush seemed to go for an Unprettier, but Dorado escaped. Dorado sent Rush into the turnbuckle, and climbed up, then connected with a high angle crossbody. Both men struggled to get back to their feet here.
A chop from Dorado sent Rush to his knees. Dorado followed up with a kick to the back of the head, then a suicide dive to the outside. Back in the ring, a trio of moonsaults nearly put Rush away, but the Man of the Hour kicked out.
Both men traded shots here, but Dorado seemed to win out with three running big boots to the jaw. Eventually, he dropped Rush with the Golden Rewind. However, as he went for the Shooting Star Press, Rush again went to the ropes.
He wasn't safe, though, as Dorado hit him with a diving leg drop on the ropes. Rush rolled across the ring, baiting Dorado in, and sent him flying into the turnbuckle shoulder first. Rush finished the match with the Final Hour.
Results: Lio Rush defated Lince Dorado via pinfall.
Rush attacked Dorado after the match, but Lucha House Party made the save, sending him running into the crowd.
Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviewed Noam Dar, who was bragging about his win over Tony Nese. Nese came in and said that Dar was only lucky, and claimed that 99/100 times, he could beat the Scottish Supernova. Nese challenged Dar to one more match, the rubber match. Dar continued to taunt Nese and walked away before answering.
TJP met with Drake Maverick backstage. Maverick said that he couldn't challenge Murphy tonight, as that has already been taken by a new debuting superstar tonight. Before he could finish talking to TJP, the CruiserGreat laughed and walked off.
