WWE Battleground - Best story

What followed an excellent storyline was an excellent match. They kicked off the pay per view with a promo where Renee Young interviewed the Rhodes family.

All of them were quite compelling and that little growl by Goldust towards the end was vintage Goldust, and that little thing really added to the overall intensity of that backstage segment.

The next thing we know, they make an entrance to Dusty Rhodes’ theme song. It was such a cool sight to see the family walk down the ramp and even cooler was to see Dusty Rhodes dressed like a cowboy.

And then there was the match. The match saw both the team asserting equal control, going back and forth, back and forth. Nobody came out looking stronger than the other.

Even though we had winners, there wasn’t much of a loser in anyone. This storyline had the hounds of justice – the young lions of the WWE against Cody Rhodes, who’s as young and as bright a future star as them and Goldust – who hasn’t aged a bit and Dusty Rhodes – who is 68 and undoubtedly aged.

This was supposed to favour the Shield. But as I said – everybody came out looking strong in their own ways.

When the match began, the arena was into it. It was clear that this feud was looked forward to by the ones in the arena. The audience cheered for Goldust with a ‘We want Goldust’ chants and ‘You Still Got It’.

They gave a standing ovation to Dusty Rhodes pulling off his belt and going after Dean Ambrose. And they went bonkers when Cody planted the Cross Rhodes on Rollins.

WWE wrestling prevails in being a spectacle. It does not matter what the outcome is, what matters is all the entities in between. It is all about the build up towards the outcome.

This match began and built up towards a crescendo. The excitement in the arena was one of pure attention. The cardinal rule of wrestling is to get a reaction by getting everybody’s attention.

And this match, which consisted WWE legends in Goldust and Dusty Rhodes and a possible future Legend in Cody, was all about the many things that a hardcore fan loves about the WWE. And the reaction that the end of the match triggered was testament to the great story it has been so far.

The particular exchange between Ambrose and Dusty Rhodes was very very entertaining. It was great to see Dusty Rhodes make his presence felt like that, but what was even more interesting was having Dean Ambrose, whose persona has an old school charm and who is touted by many former and current stars as trademark WWE future, and see him going face to face with Dusty Rhodes.

Dean Ambrose can be a great singles superstar, that’s been said countless times before by countless others. And all behold Dusty’s Bionic Elbow!

And in the end, there were no new champions, no belts were exchanged. The only belt that was with the Rhodes was Dusty’s pant belts.

But it won’t be shocking if the belts are kept on the line later on. Anyway, The Shield look like they will be champions for a long time. And the young lions including Cody proved that the WWE’s future is in good hands.
