WWE News: Braun Strowman reveals original plan for his character
Braun Strowman has been an integral part of The Wyatt Family since his debut last year on the Raw after Summerslam. That has been his only identity so far, at least until he got separated from the rest of The Wyatt Family in the draft. Vince wanted him so bad that he even made him skip NXT and jump directly to the main roster despite being quite green in the ring.
In fact, Vince was reportedly so high on Strowman that there was even consideration of him being Undertaker’s opponent at Wrestlemania 32 after John Cena got injured. However, once word broke out and there was much internet backlash, those considerations were reportedly scrapped.
However, Strowman being split from The Wyatt Family could be an indication that Vince still intends to push him as a singles star. Since the draft, Strowman has been involved in three squash matches with enhancement talents, which have been met with positive reaction from the WWE Universe.
Strowman was recently on the Steve Austin podcast, and in his interview with The Rattlesnake, he revealed what the original plans for his gimmick was:
"For a long time, there was talk that it wasn't going to happen. When I first got to talking about being brought up to the main roster it wasn't going to be at all. They were talking about cutting my hair, my beard, giving me a different look, going with something else. And then the powers that be decided that that's not what they wanted, they wanted me to be with The Wyatt Family and I tell you what, the little experience that I have had coming up and wrestling and getting and then being put in with a group of guys like that to hide some of my weaknesses while I honed my skills... I couldn't have been in a better spot.
One, three of the greatest human beings that I've ever met, just to be around outside of the business. Then, as far as in the ring, Luke Harper is one of the best working big men I have ever seen. Rowan is the same way, now that Harper's been hurt for a while, Rowan's stepped up in Harper's position, working on the house shows and things, and he's the one flying around bumping, doing all this crazy stuff.
And then walking out with Bray and just... even him mesmerizing me and I'm in the ring knowing what's going on and just listening to him talk is just like... I was very, very blessed to be put in that spot. I think it really helped me, like, I don't know what would have happened if I would have been brought in doing something else. Who knows? You know with this business it's fly by the seat of your pants, you either get over or you don't."
