WWE Extreme Rules 2016: Aiden English special interview

Aiden English promises to bring old school flair for the WWE World Tag Team Championship

Extreme Rules PPV is just mere hours away and the hype among the fans for the event is nearing explosive levels. With many feuds rumored to end bloody, the PPV has garnered more attention than expected given the short duration in which WWE prepared for it. Though the PPV will be an rehash of Payback, the advancement of various storylines have made people invest in the event.

As an effort to promote Extreme Rules, Aiden English, one half of the #1 contenders for the WWE World Tag Team Championship, spoke to media on Tuesday. The Vaudevillains, Aiden English and Simon Gotch, earned the right to face New Day this Sunday at Extreme Rules PPV for the WWE World Tag Team Championship at Payback when the #1 contenders match was called off due to Enzo’s untimely injury.

Aiden English answered various questions posed by journalists around the globe in his natural suave way.

On the development of The Vaudevillains

An unique entrance and gimmick

Before The Vaudevillains was formed, English was already wrestling in NXT. After two years of being a singles competitor, English was stagnant and Gotch came in at that time. English remarks that someone suggested the idea of Gotch and Aiden teaming up. Even though both Gotch and Aiden didn’t know each other, they got together and created the gimmick to impress the audience. 

English remarks the name and the gimmick was a brainchild of his. He said that the name kind of rolled out of his mouth and he drew the inspiration of their entrance from his own entrance. he told the interviewers that he loved the idea of spotlight enterances and used it to tweak the entrance into something unique that has not done before.

On his inspirations and love for the business

English stated that like many other wrestlers Shawn Michaels was the one who inspired him. Even though Shawn Michaels was his inspiration, he loved the works of Ric Flair, Dick Slater and all other old school wrestlers. He also stated that Triple H was like a mentor to him in NXT and he was kind of the leader figure in NXT to whom every wrestler went to.

He also remarked that he was a fan of the whole business. In fact all through his childhood, wrestling was a dream for him. He also stated that the stage combat experience he had in his college helped him to transition into a wrestler smoothly.  

On main roster call up

English revelaed that The Vaudevillains were informed about their main roster call up on the eve of WrestleMania 32. he told that he felt a sense of accomplishment when the call up came and the most ominant of his reactions was relief. He also remarked that things have been like whirlwind ever since he came up to WWE main roster.  

On tag division in WWE

Aiden told that he considers tag team division an important thing in WWE, when questioned about tag team division’s relevance in a promotion that is dominated by singles wrestling. He expressed his love for it in a candid way and told that he and his fellow tag team competitors like Enzo and Cass are working tirelessly to reestablish the old popularity of the division. 

He also remarked that the tag team division has had nothing but upward mobility recently and it would flourish in the upcoming months. When asked about Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows pressence in WWE, Aiden told that he respects them as fellow competitors and also that he his a big fan of them. But, Aiden also said that he is open to face the duo anytime, anywhere.

On New Era

When asked about the dawn of New Era and the paticipation of The Vaudevillains in it, English replied that the New Era is fine but The Vaudevillains are planning to write it with some old school flair of the bygone era.

When questioned on whom he will pick between Shane and Stephanie to run things English was little hesitant. He told that he has always been a fan of Shane McMahon and Shane’s wrestling style. But, ever since he came up to NXT Triple H has been his mentor and that puts him in a tough position. If he has to indeed choose, then he said he would choose Shane. 

On his Extreme Rules match and feud with New Day

Will The Vaudevillains become new WWE World Tag Team Champions this Sunday?

Talking about the destruction of New Day’s time machine, Aiden English told that the Journey is what that matters, not the destination. He also called the New Day a team of three little boys and promised that the manhood of The Vaudevillains will emerge triumpant at Extreme Rules. He also promised to bring back some old school flair to the WWE World Tag Team Championships.

When asked about how they are planning to counter the numbers game of New Day, Aiden responded saying that him and Simon are bothe equal to 3 men each on their own. English also stated that the temperament and experience they have will help them win the championships and The vaudevillains will make people understand what the real men are made of.

On venturing into Singles competition

English accepted that both him and Simon Gotch are strong willed individuals who are hungry. He  also said that if opportunity presents itself, both him and Simon will definitely venture into singles competition. Aiden also told that while they have the desire to venture into singles competition, right now thier focus is on winning the Tag Team Championship gold.

On his family

English remarked that being married to a wrestling family has helped him. His mother-in-law Vickie Guererro has always been a supporting figure for him. He told that Vickie helped him to transition from NXT, where most of the shows are local, to main roster, where he has to be on the road for a long time, smooothly. He also informed that his family has been supportive and helpfull ll along his journey as a wrestler.

When asked whether his family would be present at Extreme Rules, English remarked that his family was present at Payback, which took place in his home state, but won’t be present at Extreme Rules.

  • English would have choosen a tag-team ladder match as a stipulation for Extreme Rules if the choice was left to him.
  • English recommends his match at NXT Takeover : Brooklyn to any one who doesn’t know who they are. He comments that it is indeed his favourite match and recommends the entire PPV to watch.
  • English’s ideal WrestleMania entrance is to make an entrance in a steam engine across the stage.
  • English loves Camp WWE as he was always a big fan of comedy cartoons. He will only feature in Camp WWE if he was given a chance to sing in his own voice.
