WWE/Indy news: Darren Young returns to the ring
What’s the story?
Independent wrestling star Fred Rosser, formerly known as Darren Young in WWE, has made his return to the ring ahead of joining Chikara's trios tournament later this year.
Rosser's first appearance since his WWE release came at a Wrestle Pro show in Union, New Jersey, on Friday.
In case you didn’t know…
Rosser made his WWE debut as Darren Young through the developmental territory of FCW in 2009 before going on to compete in the first season of WWE NXT, being mentored by CM Punk.
In the NXT first season finale, Young joined forces with his fellow season one rookies to form the faction Nexus and interfere in the main event match on Raw between CM Punk and John Cena in one of Raw's most memorable moments - attacking both Superstars, the announce team and destroying the ring and everything around it.
Following the Nexus’ dissolution, Young formed a tag team with Titus O’Neil called the Prime Time Players - capturing the WWE Tag Team Championship.
On October 29, 2017, Young was released from his WWE contract.
The heart of the matter
Fred Rosser finally made his return to action last night. Rosser had just recovered from an injury and returned to the ring at a live event before his release in October.
Four months on, Rosser has returned at a Wrestle Pro show in Union, New Jersey, competing against Fallah Bahh and picking up the win.
Young took to social media and spoke highly of Bahh.
What’s next?
Rosser looks like he'll be working the indies from now on, but he's also participating in the Sleep Out on March 22nd, where he will live life as a homeless person for one night in solidarity with younger people who are forced to sleep rough. You can donate to his cause here.
Rosser will also be competing at the Chikara: King of Trios tournament later this year with two former Nexus members, PJ Black and Michael Tarver.
The tournament begins on the 31st of August and concludes on 2nd September.
Author’s take
It's great to see Darren Young back in action! I hope to see a lot more of Fred Rosser on the independent scenes and back on TV soon, and wish him all the best for the Sleep Out too.
