WWE legend draws flak over alleged racist comments
– Stone Cold Steve Austin has been the best thing to come out of the Attitude Era. The brash and straight forward Superstar has a great personality and an ‘in your face’ attitude. Steve Austin is a multiple time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Hall of Famer and hosts a show on the WWE Network. The Stonecold Podcast is tuned into by a lot of fans and features explosive interviews with some of current as well as former superstars.
During the Daniel Bryan retirement segment, Titus O’Neil was seen pulling back Vince McMahon while Vince and Stephanie were walking back from the stage. This was seen as extremely inappropriate by Vince McMahon and some backstage staff and Titus has since been suspended for 60 days. It was rumoured that Titus was going to be fired but Triple H talked Vince out of it.
Stone Cold discussed this incident on the recent episode of his podcast and said that "...it's not a time to be shucking and jiving out there, so lay some type of punishment down, fine him this, that or whatever. I don't know, something was inappropriate."
His choice of words have not gone down too well with a certain ESPN personality called Bomani Jones who said that Austin had an “unfortunate choice of words”, because they perceivedly insinuate racism.
Austin quickly denied the claims that the incident involved racism. Ironically enough, the context Austin stated those comments in were to dismiss accusations of racist motives being behind Titus O’Neil’s suspension.
