WWE legend to turn heel for the first time and help Dominik Mysterio dethrone Gunther? Potential swerve explored
Dominik Mysterio is up for the biggest WWE match of his career. The 27-year-old superstar has qualified to face Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship match after Crown Jewel PLE.
Dom defeated former World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest in the main event of Monday Night RAW on Monday, pulling one of the biggest upsets of WWE matches this year. His Judgement Day stable mates helped him to steal the win against The Archer of Infamy, causing a big surprise. However, he certainly stands no chance against The Ring General in the title match. A legend might come to save the day for him. It's none other than his father, Rey Mysterio.
Even though Rey and Dominik have been against each other since Dirty Dom turned on his father in 2022, the Hall of Famer can come to the aid of his son and let him steal a victory against Gunther. The Master of 619 has never been a heel in his WWE career, but there is a potential for Rey to turn heel in the last leg of his in-ring career.
His current WWE run as a face, being part of the LWO faction, has become stale, and it is not adding anything to his in-ring career. Rey helping out Dom against his match with Gunther will undoubtedly increase his stocks in the company.
Further, Rey Mysterio joining the Judgement Day faction after helping out Dominik will also be better for the group, as Rey would be working as a heel for the first time in his career. He would also have a valid reason to back his son, citing that he always wanted him to become the World Champion.
Rey Mysterio had pitched his heel run to former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon
The Hall of Famer once revealed that he pitched Vince McMahon the idea of turning heel on his son, Dominik Mysterio.
However, he said that his idea was turned down. Speaking to Chris Van Vliet in a podcast, Mysterio said:
“I remember bringing it up one time when Dom and I were working together, I brought it up to Vince and it was brief. Like maybe I turn on Dom and we continue with something along the ways. But getting feedback from some of my colleagues, like no, you’re the babyface that could never be a heel. Like you’re Ricky Steamboat, nobody can ever see you as a heel, I don’t think they would buy into it." [H/T POST Wrestling]
In fact, Rey Mysterio and John Cena are the only WWE superstars who have never been a heel in their careers. Maybe Triple H thinks from a fresh perspective and tries to bring Rey Mysterio into the storyline between Gunther and Dominik Mysterio. Let's wait and watch.
