WWE: Looking forward to the Divas storyline
Two weeks ago, when there was a divas match between Natalya and Brie Bella, nothing much was expected to come out of it and it hardly got any reaction.
A talented wrestler like Natalya lost to one of those twins, and it was hardly shocking. But what followed after the conclusion of that match was something unexpected.
AJ Lee made her way out and just when I had taken it for granted that she would mumble some jibber-jabber and walk off, I’m glad that I stood corrected. Her promo only got better and better, and the Bellas only got more and more annoying.
Now, some people have a problem with a talent like Natalya getting dragged into that promo which was sprinkled with insults suitable for the other divas involved on the show.
Well, if we look at this promo fictionally, which is what it was and is supposed to be understood that way, then this provides a great ingredient for a future rivalry between AJ and Natalya.
Natalya is a former champion, and I think one of the most bearable people on the ‘reality’ show. But as far as Natalya’s treatment in the WWE goes, that rivalry seems to be shaky and doubtful. But this still remains one of the possibilities.
The Bellas have also been Divas Champions, and of all the other divas, they stand a great chance of sharing screen space and time with AJ for the title.
Given that how much they are pushed in the division, even though there are far better wrestlers and maybe actors who could easily replace them, their prominence on television and in this storyline seems inevitable as they indirectly seemed to be the main focus of AJ’s promo, and they looked and acted being quite p****d off.
And then there is the recent Smackdown Spoiler where AJ Lee riles up the Divas Locer room, and the rest of the Divas with AJ go against the ‘Total Divas’.
This is very reasonable, and the divas division has been void of reasons for a few years now. Brie Bella, Naomi and Natalya were fighting for being the Number One Contender for AJ’s title at Night Of Champions.
Why wasn’t any other diva given that chance? Or why were only these three given a chance and since the beginning of Total Divas, the cast members have been on television more than the other divas?
That, I understand, is a business choice and hence categorized as good for business. Can this storyline gain momentum to be included with the Corporation Angle? Stephanie McMahon can take charge and dictate the rules and give her orders.
If this feud is based on jealousy on AJ’s part for not being on the reality show? Then AJ remains a heel and maybe this will lead to her being involved with the show in the future. But if this is built around actually accentuating AJ’s talent in the ring, then she might turn face.
But in the back of my mind, AJ’s involvement in the show seems much more plausible than antagonizing the ‘Total Divas’. But still, this is the best shot at a weighty storyline that the divas have had in a while.
