WWE/MMA News: Jim Ross says WWE is already in talks with Conor McGregor
What’s the story?
In an interview with Submission Radio, Jim Ross revealed that Conor McGregor is likely already in talks with the WWE.
Expounding upon McGregor potentially working with the WWE, Ross asserted that Vince McMahon and Triple H are well aware of who McGregor is, and the WWE may have possibly had a few business conversations with the Notorious Irishman.
In case you didn’t know…
Conor McGregor—a former UFC Featherweight titlist and current UFC Lightweight Champion—is one of the biggest box office attractions in combat sports today.
McGregor has previously made several negative remarks about the WWE Superstars, barring, of course, a few people he calls ‘real dons’ namely Vince McMahon, Triple H and The Rock. In fact, McGregor took a shot at Brock Lesnar’s alleged steroid use and referred to John Cena as a "big fat 40 year old failed Mr. Olympian."
The heart of the matter
Jim Ross stated the following on WWE and Conor McGregor’s rumored conversations—
“Vince knows who Conor McGregor is…You know, Vince doesn’t live on Uranus (and) he’s pretty well-read, he pays attention, he pays attention; and Paul Levesque (Triple H) certainly knows who Conor McGregor is.”
“I don’t have this concrete information or source telling me all that good stuff, I would be very surprised if the two parties on some level haven’t had some kind of communication. It may be lawyer to lawyer, probably that more than anything, but just to feel out interest.”
Furthermore, Ross elucidated that McGregor may first come over to the WWE for a one-off deal, and gauge how well this event does in the box office, before engaging in further commitments with WWE. He continued that McGregor is a perfect fit for WWE.
Besides, Ross explained that despite McGregor’s remarks against a few WWE Superstars, the latter could indeed come over to the WWE, since he’s a great talker and considerably competitive as well. JR added that perhaps the stars will align, and McGregor could indeed work with WWE in the near future.
What’s next?
Conor McGregor came up short in his professional boxing debut; falling to TKO opposite the now-retired fellow box-office attraction Floyd Mayweather Jr.
McGregor is likely to defend his UFC Lightweight Championship against Interim Champ Tony Ferguson in 2018. However, Mayweather has been teasing a potential return to combat sports, and multi-fight deal with the UFC, hence his rematch with McGregor—be it in boxing or MMA—is, in fact, a possibility in the months to come.
