WWE: Mr. Monday Night returns!

WWE Payback was one of the better PPVs in quite a while, and one of the highlights of the show was the promo WWE aired for the return of a certain someone who is one of the greatest high flyers in professional wrestling. After more than four years, Rob Van Dam is scheduled to return to the WWE next month at the Money in the Bank PPV, which is one of the better decisions the WWE management has taken in a while. Since Money in the Bank PPV is slated to take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, home of the original Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), what better way to drag the crowd and the ratings than to bring in the biggest name in ECW history, someone who was loved and adored by all the ECW faithful? That is where WWE management hit the nail right on the head in roping in RVD next month.

Rob Van Dam is no stranger to the WWE Universe. He is a former WWE Champion, winning the very first Money in the Bank ladder match! He also held the ECW title when Paul Heyman handed the belt to him along with the WWE championship. RVD is also a three-time WWE tag team champion, also holding the WWE Intercontinental title, Hardcore title and the European title in the company. RVD is one of the few ECW originals who made it big in the WWE, and Vince McMahon showed enough faith in the superstar to make him the main attraction and the headliner of the second ECW: One Night Stand PPV in 2006, where he defeated then-WWE champion John Cena to capture the WWE title for the very first time in his career, much to the elation of the ECW fans at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

RVD made a one–time appearance at the Royal Rumble in 2009, and after that signed up with TNA Wrestling, and was with the company for a couple of years. It was obvious that RVD wasn’t as serious about professional wrestling as he was in ECW and WWE, and was just jogging through his matches. After his contract with TNA expired, RVD signed a contract with the WWE which will see him returning next month. Time and again, RVD has proven how he can be a main player in the WWE. RVD was voted the number 1 professional wrestler in the year 2002, and was voted the most popular wrestler in 2001 and 2002! His match with John Cena at the ECW: One Night Stand in 2006 was rated the match of the year!

Rob Van Dam is called ‘Mr. Monday Night’ for a reason. He is one of the most entertaining superstars if he puts his mind into the sport, and was seen as the hottest free agent when he refused to sign with the WWE in 2010. He was picked up by TNA, where he became the TNA World Champion before he lost interest in the company’s product. RVD will be taking on a relatively lighter schedule this time around, which will give his body time to recuperate and would see him get involved in important feuds and storylines, something that the fans expect and would want. When RVD left the WWE after losing the WWE and ECW titles, he was upset with the way company treated him, as he was suspended from the company for 30 days due to his first violation of the company’s Wellness Policy.

RVD also has a knack of getting into trouble with the management due to his marijuana issues. RVD, along with Sabu, was detained many times before and led to his release from the company in 2007. With RVD taking on a lighter schedule this time around, we can expect him to play Brock Lesnar-esque role in the WWE, getting involved in major feuds and working a limited number of dates. His return to the WWE, along with the returns of Christian and CM Punk, brings about an interesting period within the company; and since he’ll be returning at Money in the Bank PPV, the WWE management might already have a feud in mind for Rob Van Dam. I, for one, can’t wait to see how things unfold, as RVD will grace our TV screens one more time, with his “educated feet.”
