What's the story?

In the first match of NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, Velveteen Dream, Killian Dain, Lars Sullivan, EC3, Richochet and Adam Cole put on one of the best ladder matches in WWE history to win the new NXT North American Championship. But it was Adam Cole who triumphed when the dust had settled.

In case you didn't know...

On a recent episode of NXT William Regal announced a new NXT title, the North American Championship, and that the debuting Ricochet and EC3 will be joining Velveteen Dream, Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan and Killian Dain in a Ladder Match for the title at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans.

The heart of the matter

I'm still not sure how to really process that Ladder Match as it was one of the most insane things I'll probably ever see six professional wrestlers put themselves through, but needless to say, it was an incredible match.

Ricochet wasted no time introducing himself to the WWE Universe with this Springboard Splash to the outside (even if he did almost overshoot it and land on his head)

Lars Sullivan was insane throughout the whole match, throwing ladders at people, ramming people with ladders, and oh yeah, absolutely destroying EC3 and Velveteen Dream with a Freak Accident through a ladder, here's the aftermath.

Eventually all six men are climbing up three ladders in the center of the ring and all are so close to claiming the title, however, Adam Cole manages to sneak in when everyone's down and reach the belts becoming the first ever WWE NXT North American Champion.

What's next?

The saying 'there's no rest for the wicked' has never been more apt as Adam Cole has to defend the NXT Tag Team Titles later on TakeOver, as well as defend his newly won North American Title against Axxess Invitational Tournament winner Akira Tozawa tomorrow morning.

Author's take

I can see why Adam Cole picked up the win and I'm okay with it as much as I would have liked to have seen Velveteen Dream or Ricochet pick up the title.
