WWE News: AJ Lee discusses the story behind her anti-Total Divas promo
What’s the story?
AJ Lee had some interesting things to say on a recent Q&A while promoting her new book “Crazy Is My Superpower”. According to AJ, she was asked to participate in Total Divas, but she respectfully declined. When Vince McMahon found out, he told AJ to take a live mic and explain the reason on Monday Night Raw.
Check out that promo from Raw:
In case you didn’t know...
AJ started with the WWE in 2009 under the developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling. She would later go on to become the longest reigning WWE Divas Champion at that time with a 295-day reign. Over two years later, that record would be broken by Nikki Bella.
The heart of the matter...
Vince came up to AJ after she cut the promo and told her that he was proud of her performance. One would assume he’d be mad and punish anyone that would not take part in something as major as Total Divas, but his reaction was the complete opposite.
What’s next?
Right now AJ Lee is continuing the nationwide tour for her book. While nothing is official, she has said in an interview that she would consider returning to wrestling at some point.
Author’s take...
I am honestly surprised that AJ wasn’t punished in some fashion for declining to appear Total Divas. She continued to hold the championship for another eight months after that promo, so it makes complete sense that Vince respected her decision.
Though most people know that Total Divas is completely scripted, this interview with AJ will completely prove it. The WWE presented her with different scenarios to play out on the show, none of which dealt with AJ’s actual life.
