WWE News: AJ Styles on if he will renew with WWE after his contract expires, his retirement plans and more
What’s the story?
During a recent interview with Raute Musik, WWE Champion AJ Styles spoke and discussed a host of topics including his plans after retirement from Professional Wrestling and if he plans of renewing his WWE contract once it expires.
In case you didn’t know…
AJ Styles made his WWE debut back in the year 2016 when he entered the Royal Rumble match as a surprise entrant and sent the entire Pro Wrestling world into a hectic frenzy. Styles, who is a former TNA and IWGP Heavyweight Champion, has been a veteran of the Pro Wrestling business for the past two decades.
Since making his debut two years ago, “The Phenomenal One” has also been highly successful in the WWE, winning the WWE Title on two occasions and also previously holding the WWE United States Championship as well.
The heart of the matter
As aforementioned, AJ Styles discussed a myriad of topics while speaking with Germany based internet radio station Raute Musik and below are a few highlights from the interview:
If he will renew with WWE after his contract expires:
According to Styles, he believes that over the course of the next few years he could certainly provide and keep working for the WWE in a talent form and would like to keep working for the company, as long as he can keep going, in terms of in-ring competition.
"I don't see why not if I can still do what I do. Like, if I can still be AJ Styles, then I would like to keep working in the WWE in a talent form, so as long as I can keep going, then I would like to keep working here."
His plans after retirement:
Styles noted that following his eventual retirement from Pro Wrestling, he would like to spend some time around with his family. He is also added that he is the type of guy who does not likes to sit at home and would like to get back on the road, either as an agent or more a trainer in the Pro Wrestling industry.
"I think there is definitely going to be a time to just sit and chill with the family, but a guy like me just doesn't sit at home, so I would like to get back on the road, either as an agent, or more importantly, become a trainer of some sort. Who knows what will be around in WWE by the time I retire. There may be a better job than that."
On who he thinks would become the next breakout star:
Styles stated that at this point some of the most promising Superstars are not even working for the WWE and despite that, may prove themselves to be the next breakout guy in the business in the next couple years.
“You never know who is going to get the confidence in themselves in the ring and on the microphone to be that next superstar, so you just never know."
What’s next?
AJ Styles will defend the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 34—which will be his third ‘Mania appearance—against “The King of Strong Style” Shinsuke Nakamura, who became the #1 contender for the WWE Title after winning the 2018 Men’s Royal Rumble.
Author’s Take
Upon his initial retirement from Pro Wrestling, AJ Styles is certainly going down as one of the greatest wrestlers to ever step foot in the Pro Wrestling industry, however, I certainly hope that we the fans of AJ Styles get to see him compete in the WWE for the next few years at least.
