What's the story?

Former WWE Champion AJ Styles made a significant change to his on-screen character on this week's episode of WWE RAW. For a long while now, AJ Styles has been a fan favourite, babyface character on WWE TV. He had one run as a heel back in the early days of the Brand Split but had since reverted to his fan favourite persona.

AJ Styles revealed on his Mixer live-streaming account where he games Post-RAW, that he had enough of trying to be the nice guy.

In case you didn't know...

During the last match on this week's episode of WWE RAW, AJ Styles lost his match against Ricochet for the United States Championship after it was restarted midway through when Styles had apparently won. It was restarted because, when Styles had pinned Ricochet, the United States Champion had his foot on the rope.

After the match was restarted, Styles went on to lose, with Ricochet picking up the win.

Gallows and Anderson were there to support Styles. Over the past few weeks, Styles had been encouraging them to find their true selves, but during this week's episode, they said that he had gotten too soft as well. The three of them reformed The Club as they faced down Ricochet and decimated the United States Champion, effectively turning heel.

The heart of the matter

AJ Styles revealed that he had very few people whom he could trust. However, he trusted Anderson and Gallows completely, calling them 'family'.

"Some of you may have not liked it. Some of you may have absolutely loved it. And here's the one thing that I know. There's not a lot of people in this world that you can trust. But I do trust my family." h/t - ComicBook.com

Styles said that he felt like he was stuck in a prison trying to be someone he did not feel like being.

"I feel like AJ Styles was stuck in this, 'I'm going to smile all the time, I'm going to be the nicest guy in the room even when I don't feel like it, when I'm tired. He's going to be this guy' [mode]. I felt like I was in prison. And I just broke out." h/t - ComicBook.com

This seems extremely similar to the idea of the video by Jon Moxley after his release from his WWE contract. However, there might not be any barbed wire in this company at least.

What's next?

It appears that AJ Styles is going to be in a feud with Ricochet over the coming weeks. With Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows now behind him, things don't appear too good for Ricochet's hopes of retaining the United States Championship in the coming weeks.
