WWE News: WWE Championship match announced for Clash of Champions
Jinder Mahal will invoke his rematch clause against AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at the upcoming Clash of Champions pay-per-view.
Styles came out on SmackDown Live to discuss his match against Brock Lesnar from Survivor Series this past Sunday and told Lesnar that he’d be up to for a rematch in the future. Styles then called Mahal out for his claims of taking the title back from him and Mahal appeared on the titantron.
After Styles and Mahal exchanged words over who was truly a disgrace to the WWE Championship, Mahal informed Styles that he would be invoking his rematch clause at the SmackDown exclusive pay-per-view Clash of Champions.
Styles was then attacked by the Singh Brothers, but the Phenomenal One overpowered them and hit one of them with the Styles Clash while looking up at Mahal on the titantron.
This will mark the second championship match between the two and the first pay-per-view Styles has the main evented since the Money in the Bank match back in July.
Mahal won the title by defeating Randy Orton at the Backlash pay-per-view and held the title for 169 days. Styles defeated Mahal two weeks ago to win his second WWE Championship in the UK; becoming the first man to win the WWE Championship outside of the United States.
Clash of Champions pay-per-view will emanate from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts four weeks from now on Dec. 17.
