WWE News: AJ Styles wants to face Randy Orton next
AJ Styles has been a revelation in the WWE. Originally planned to be a mid carder, AJ has captured the WWE World Championship well within a year of his WWE debut. He debuted at the Royal Rumble and impressed everyone by lasting for about 30 minutes before being eliminated by Kevin Owens.
Since then, Styles has not looked back. He has put up some amazing matches with the likes of Chris Jericho, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose and John Cena.
In fact, AJ currently has a 2-0 lead over Cena in singles matches. Who would have thought that was possible in the WWE?
Now that Styles is at the top of the WWE SmackDown Live roster, he has expressed his interest to work with another WWE veteran. While he was appearing for an interview with Gamer Revolution, Styles revealed that he would love to work a program with 12-time World Champion,Randy Orton.
Styles said that there were a number of superstars on the SmackDown Live roster with whom he hadn’t worked yet. He felt that a feud between him and Randy was surely going to happen down the line since both are in SmackDown and it would also be a rivalry that the viewers would invest in.
Styles said:
“I haven’t been in the ring with Randy Orton. We're both on SmackDown Live, so eventually that's gonna happen. I think that's gonna be huge, that's gonna be fun. So there's definitely guys on the SmackDown! roster that I haven't had the opportunity to wrestle, and the RAW roster, and the NXT roster. I think there's all these matches that people are gonna wanna see, it's gonna happen eventually. And I'm one of 'em. I want these matches to happen as well.”
Styles also talked about the prospect of having a match with NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. Styles and Nakamura had previously squared off against each other at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 10 in a gem of a wrestling match.
Styles said that he wasn’t sure as to when or where the rematch would happen, but he made it clear that it would be a special affair. He said that when the time comes, everyone would be aware of it and enjoy a visual treat of a match.
Styles is set to defend his championship against Dean Ambrose in this week’s episode of SmackDown Live. He will then go on to face John Cena and Dean Ambrose in a triple threat match at No Mercy for the prized possession that is the WWE World Championship.
