WWE News: AJ Styles' WrestleMania 34 status still not confirmed, Triple H gives an update on possible replacement
What's the story?
Triple H was asked about the current status of AJ Styles when the WWE COO was with the media to promote NXT Takeover: New Orleans.
The Game spoke about there being a plan b and c, while also revealing the efforts that are being made to ensure the WWE Champion wrestles at WrestleMania 34.
In case you didn't know...
Styles suffered an undisclosed injury sometime last week. The Phenomenal One worked a match against Rusev on last week's SmackDown and was written off live event matches after he was taken out by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens at the start of the show in MSG.
The SmackDown babyface was pulled from all live events on the subsequent days and has not yet been deemed fit to return to action.
Styles, though, was optimistic during a recent media call when he said, "I will be wrestling Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania, don't worry about it, it'll be fine."
However, Triple H's comments cast doubts over the Wrestle Kingdom 10 rematch happening on WWE's biggest stage...
The heart of the matter
In an interview with Catch-Newz, The Game stated that the doctors were working overtime to get Styles cleared in time for Mania and the Champion himself has been responding positively to the rehabilitation process.
While hoping for the best, the Cerebral Assassin didn't allude to the fact that there are back up plans in place, however irreplaceable a talent AJ Styles may seem.
"AJ is an incredible performer. Replacing AJ Styles would be very difficult. [He's] not necessarily a replaceable talent, but we would do our best."
Here's what the 14-time WWE Champion had to say below:
What's next?
The commitment and will of the Phenomenal One shouldn't hamper the dream match from coming to fruition on April 8th.
The elite medical team of WWE is expected to get the WWE Champion ready in time and we hope it all goes according to the plan.
Author's take
We really hope WWE aren't forced to take the unpopular decision of dropping the face of SmackDown Live from Mania.
Styles' tenacity in these testing times partially clears the air the uncertainty that surrounds the marquee match.
If Styles were to be replaced, who would you like to see take his lucrative spot?
