WWE News: Alberto El Patron reveals that he had a rocky relationship with Paige's brother
What's the story?
WWE Raw Superstar Paige's family were not the most accepting of people when it was revealed that she was dating Alberto Del Rio. Her father, as well as her brother, posted a few less-than-flattering comments about the former WWE Champion who finally shed some light on Paige's family during an appearance on Konan's podcast.
In case you didn't know...
Paige and Alberto Del Rio revealed that they were in a relationship back in 2016, merely months before both stars were suspended from WWE for violating their Wellness Policy for the first time.
After sitting out his suspension, Del Rio asked and was granted a release from WWE, whilst Paige was suspended for a second time, this time for 60 days and she recently revealed that at the time she was taking drugs.
When it was first revealed that Del Rio was dating the only daughter of Saraya Knight and her husband, Ricky, the family didn't have many good things to say about the Mexican star, but it seemed like the family later accepted their relationship and even invited Del Rio to Norwich where he was part of a number of WAW shows and was even the Champion at one point, before he was stripped of the belt earlier this year.
The heart of the matter
The Impact Wrestling star recently appeared on the Keeping It 100 with Konnan podcast where he talked about the strained relationship he had with his partner's family throughout their time together.
He said:"The whole family is always on the internet; reading what the internet is saying, believing what the internet is saying. When that happened, the brother went and decided to say something. Not because he was really caring about Paige, or trying to protect her, because he knew the real situation. He just had a personal agenda against me to say the things he said. He said that he posted those things on Social Media because he cares about his sister, but he never called her before or after Paige had surgery."
Paige's brothers, Roy and Zak, and her father, Ricky, have always been very vocal on Social Media and were throughout most of Paige's struggles earlier this year. It seems that Del Rio was the one who stood by Paige whilst her family were busy calling him out and attempting to bury him online.
"We're talking about the same brother that a few weeks before the whole drama happened, he was screaming to the world how I'm the best man, he's my brother in law, and nobody was better than Alberto. Of course this was when I was working for free for his dad's company. They said that WWE was trying to ruin their anniversary show in Norwich, England, when WWE was going to be there, and the dad was devastated he was crying, and really depressed. I said to them, you know what, you are my family now, I will take care of it. I ended up calling my great friend Rey Mysterio and I got Rey Mysterio for free to work the same show with me. I have a lot of respect for her dad, Ray Knight. I miss the dad. He was always a good guy."
What's next?
Paige and Del Rio broke up a number of months ago before Paige returned to WWE so it seems that he doesn't have a lot of contact with her family anymore. In her recent podcast with Lilian Garcia, she revealed that she hardly speaks to Del Rio anymore either. The former World Champion is now working for Impact Wrestling and moving forward in his career, whilst Paige is working on her own career in WWE.
Authors take
Paige's family has been around the wrestling business their entire life and the fact that they have only one daughter makes them very protective of her.
It seems that her family was just trying to ensure that she was ok throughout the past year which was an incredibly difficult one for the leader of Absolution.Fortunately, 2017 is almost in the books, and Paige appears to have a new lease on life.
