WWE News: Alberto El Patron wants to return to WWE in 2019
What’s the story?
Former WWE Champion, World Heavyweight Champion and Impact Wrestling Champion Alberto El Patron (Del Rio) had an interview with Spanish news site Medio Tiempo this past Thursday and said that he apologized to Triple H for verbally attacking him and hopes to return to WWE before retiring in 2019.
In case you didn’t know…
Alberto El Patron left WWE under bad circumstances in 2016 and has had nothing but bad things to say about the company and Triple H in dozens of interviews and even shoot promo's on Impact Wrestling ever since. Many in the business blame him for the rough year his ex-girlfriend, WWE star Paige has had.
Alberto's contract with Impact Wrestling expires this spring. As of right now, he remains among the last performers who have a big money contract with the company.
The heart of the matter
Although Alberto intends on working with Impact Wrestling until 2019, that may not be the case. Former World Champions James Storm, EC3 and Bobby Lashley have all left the company this month due to Anthem Sports & Entertainment's big contract cost-cutting and they will likely be looking to downsize Alberto's contract too, which may prompt him to part ways.
During his interview with Medio Tiempo, Alberto said:
"I apologized to Triple H for the issues we were in when I was with the relationship with my ex-partner. She and her entire family made me believe that those who affected our relationship were them, specifically him.
Of course, I would go back (to WWE), I would not go back fulltime, but I would make a special appearance before I put on my wrestling boots and it will surely happen, surely before I retire I will do something special with them. I see a very difficult 2018, but in 2019 before leaving I'm definitely going to do something with them, we shook hands and everything is fine right now. Time heals wounds".
What’s next?
Alberto will continue to work with Impact Wrestling until at least spring time and then we will see what happens but a very strong chance he will leave.
Author’s take
Alberto may have apologized to Triple H and may want to return, but that doesn't mean it will happen. Alberto was one of the most controversial wrestlers of 2017 and he may have burned his last bridge with WWE.
