WWE News: Alexa Bliss on dealing with fan criticism
What's the story?
WWE Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss was a recent guest on former WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia's podcast "Chasing Glory With Lilian Garcia". One of the main topics they discussed is how Bliss handles the pressure of being a superstar in the WWE as well as how she handles the criticisms that comes with it.
In case you didn't know...
In the past, Bliss revealed that she had faced a life-threatening eating disorder at the age of 15. Getting into bodybuilding and competing in such competitions as the Arnold Classic helped her overcome the disorder.
The heart of the matter
Bliss has a big spotlight cast on her considering that she is a four-time champion in the WWE over the course of only 14 months. With that spotlight and over two million people following her on Twitter and Instagram combined, she realizes that not everyone is a fan of hers and won't always say respectful things on her posts.
"Any Instagram thing I post, someone’s going to say something, I know that. Anything on Twitter, someone’s going to judge whatever I do, whatever I say, whatever I look like, I understand that."
When talking about those critical comments on her social media, Bliss firmly believes to not read into them because her health could be at risk. She further explains about her past battles with eating disorders with the quote below:
"I also know that if I were to ever read into that and slip back into an eating disorder, my body will not survive another one. I’ve been told that multiple times with how my body reacts to it, I will not survive another one."
What's next?
Bliss will face a tough test in two weeks at No Mercy when she faces Sasha Banks, Nia Jax, and Emma in a Fatal-4-Way for the WWE Raw Women's Championship. No Mercy takes place on September 24th on the WWE Network live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Author's take
This is one of the great things about Lilian Garcia's podcast. She talks candidly with her guests about real-life challenges such as what Bliss has gone through.
I'm glad to see Bliss view these ridiculous comments from those hiding behind a keyboard the correct way. In an age where people like to try to earn quick fame by being a jerk towards a star, Bliss' mentality is one every celebrity has to adopt when it comes to handling it.
