WWE News: Alicia Fox injured; out of Women's Rumble Match and Mixed Match Challenge
What's the story?
During the pre-show for the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View, WWE Monday Night RAW General Manager Kurt Angle announced via Twitter that RAW Superstar Alicia Fox was injured and would no longer be competing in the Women's Royal Rumble Match.
In case you didn't know...
This injury has come at a strange time for Alicia Fox, as none of the female wrestlers in the WWE competed in-house shows before the Royal Rumble. WWE.com reported that she's suffered a broken tailbone and will no longer be able to appear in the Rumble match.
The heart of the matter
Kurt Angle took to Twitter to announce Foxy's injury during the Rumble pre-show, breaking the bad news to the WWE Universe.
He then added that because of her injury, Alicia Fox would no longer be able to compete in the Mixed Match Challenge as Goldust's partner, with 'Dust set to choose someone else to wrestle with during the social media based tournament.
WWE then announced the following via a press release on their website, detailing what injury Alicia Fox is dealing with.
WWE.com can now confirm Fox has suffered a broken tailbone, known as a coccygeal fracture. It’s a devastating setback for the eccentric Superstar, who had an opportunity to make history at Royal Rumble. She was also set to team with Goldust in the fourth week of the Facebook Watch–exclusive Mixed Match Challenge in a first-round bout against Jimmy Uso & Naomi. The Bizarre One will now be able to choose his own partner to replace Fox.
What's next?
There seems to be something on the water as people on Twitter are going mad and suggesting that Tamina is also out of the Royal Rumble match as she wasn't featured in the match graphic for the match that they aired during the pre-show, and didn't appear in the brawl at the end of the go-home episode of SmackDown LIVE.
Author's take
Sadly this doesn't appear to be a storyline and seems to be a last minute legitimate injury to Alicia as she's commented on the matter via Instagram, confirming the news.
No news yet on Tamina and her Rumble status, no official announcement has been made so we should assume she's still in the match.
