WWE News: Another NXT Superstar released

Ming was signed by WWE in 2016.

What's the story?

Gu Guanming has become the third NXT talent to have been released as part of the cuts happening down in the developmental, according to the Wrestling Observer.

The Chinese prospect joins Abbey Laith (Kimber Lee) and Sage Beckett on their way out of the company and WWE may not be done by the looks of it.

In case you didn't know...

Gu Guanming aka Ming was one of the seven Chinese recruits signed in 2016 on developmental contracts that underlined WWE's commitment to expand their business in China.

Ming was one of the brightest prospects among the signings due to his towering physique. The 6' 8" former boxer was a National Men's Champion in his weight class and was brought on board with great promise.

The heart of the matter

After months of training at the performance center, the 25-year-old was introduced to the NXT Universe at Live events as Kona Reeves' muscle and enforcer. Ming would eventually make his in-ring debut against Angelo Dawkins in a losing effort at a live event in Florida in October 2017.

Ming bows out of the company without making a single appearance on WWE NXT Television.

What's next?

Expect WWE to continue the spree of releases as they look to make room for top talents from other promotions such as Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

With a host of current veterans of NXT also on the cusp of a well-deserved call-up, Triple H and co. are hitting the customary refresh button.

Author's take

With no disrespect to Ming, I care more about Abbey Laith's release than a relatively unknown and untested star. Nonetheless, the 280-pound Chinese giant has a lot to look forward to at the age of 25 and could lace up his boxing gloves again.

We wish him the very best in all his future endeavours.
