From the WWE Rumor Mill: Reason why WWE is planning on ending Asuka's undefeated streak
What's the story?
Asuka has been undefeated in WWE ever since he made her debut in the company back in 2015. This undefeated streak also included more than 500 days as NXT Women's Champion before she was brought up to the main roster and her streak continued.
Asuka was recently unveiled as The Miz's partner for the upcoming Mixed Match Challenge that will be streamed live on Facebook from January 16th. It is now being reported that this could be WWE's clever way of ending Asuka's streak as part of the show.
In case you didn't know...
Asuka is currently part of a feud with Alexa Bliss on Monday Night Raw and after defeating the Raw Women's Champion last week, it seems that it's inevitable that Asuka could be heading towards a Championship match ahead of The Royal Rumble.
The WWE Universe has predicted that Asuka could win the historic match because of her undefeated streak, but it seems that Asuka has lost a battle royale before during her time in NXT, so it perhaps wouldn't affect her streak if she was eliminated from The Rumble.
The former NXT Women's Champion has also been part of a feud with Absolution that has seemingly been brushed aside for the time being, which could play a huge part in her appearance in the over-the-top match.
Whilst Asuka's streak has been quite protected over the past few years, she hasn't been given the strongest partner for the upcoming Facebook live tournament.
The heart of the matter
Asuka was recently paired with The Miz for the Mixed Match Challenge earlier today and it seems that according to Bryan Alvarez of The Wrestling Observer, there could be plans for Asuka's undefeated streak to come to an end as part of the Facebook Live competition so that the company would gain viewership.
Of course, Asuka's streak is huge for WWE right now and if the WWE Universe found out that her streak had come to an end as part of the show then many fans would definitely tune in to ensure that they didn't miss any other huge talking points throughout the competition. Of course, WWE could also plan for Asuka and Miz to win the competition overall, which would fit in with the upcoming push that it planned for WWE.
What's next?
The Miz returns to Raw this week for the first time since back in November when he dropped the Intercontinental Championship to Roman Reigns. Miz has been away from WWE filming The Marine 6 and could now be set for a decent run on the Raw roster. Asuka has already confirmed her place in The Royal Rumble match but The Mixed Match Challenge begins next Tuesday and will go on for a number of weeks.
Authors take
The best way that WWE could book The Miz and Asuka as part of this tournament is for Asuka to turn on The Miz and allow her partner to be pinned so that Asuka herself would take the loss but not the pin. This would mean that Asuka was unpinned and her undefeated streak would be able to continue to be the center point of the Raw Women's Division.
