WWE News: Asuka vs. Nia Jax announced for Elimination Chamber
What’s the Story?
The Empress of Tomorrow will face off against the Irresistible Force at the Elimination Chamber with an interesting stipulation added to the match.
If Nia Jax defeats Asuka at the Elimination Chamber, she will join the Raw Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania 34.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Many expected Jax to be added to the first-ever Women’s Elimination Chamber match, but Raw General Manager Kurt Angle announced that Alexa Bliss would defend her title against Bayley, Sonya Deville, Mickie James, Mandy Rose and Sasha Banks.
The Heart of the Matter
Asuka and Jax faced each other back in January, but the match would end in victory for the 2018 Royal Rumble Winner via count-out.
Their match at the Elimination Chamber will mark their second singles match on the main roster, but both women have faced off before in NXT. Their last singles match took place in 2016 for NXT Takeover: The End when they faced off for the NXT Women’s Championship.
Since winning the Women’s Royal Rumble match, the rumors surrounding WrestleMania 34 suggest that the former NXT Women’s Champion is expected to challenge Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
The expected plans for the Raw Women’s Championship involve Jax challenging Bliss and could easily be set up with the matches laid out for the Elimination Chamber.
Asuka is expected to defeat Jax at the upcoming pay-per-view, but she could announce her decision to challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the Raw after the Elimination Chamber and jump ship to the SmackDown brand.
What’s Next?
The Elimination Chamber pay-per-view will take place on Sunday, Feb. 25 and will emanate from the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada.
