WWE News: Asuka goes 162 matches without defeat
What’s the story?
Asuka is now undefeated for 162 matches. The reigning NXT Women’s champion has not been submitted or pinned since she joined the promotion in 2015.
In case you didn’t know...
Asuka made her NXT in-ring debut on October 7, 2015, when she faced Dana Brooke. Before signing with WWE, Asuka appeared in various promotions such as JWP Joshi Puroresu, Kuzu Pro, NEO Japan Ladies Pro Wrestling and many others.
Last year, she was ranked third in Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s list of the top 50 female singles wrestlers in the world.
The heart of the matter
Asuka has not been pinned or submitted for nearly two years now. WWE has drawn attention towards Asuka’s undefeated run and even compared it to the legendary streak of Goldberg.

Goldberg had an unbeaten run which saw him pile up 173 wins. Goldberg’s streak eventually came to an end at the hands of Kevin Nash. Goldberg even congratulated Asuka on Twitter when she reached 149 wins. This once again hints at WWE’s attempt to draw comparisons between the two.
Her most recent televised win came against Ember Moon at NXT Takeover: Orlando, where she retained the title by using heel tactics.
What’s next?
Since Asuka is just 11 wins away from tying Goldberg’s record, expect WWE to acknowledge the streak and promote it significantly. Asuka is still the NXT Women’s champion, and she is unlikely to drop the title until she surpasses Goldberg.
Even if WWE does not have plans for Asuka to surpass the record of Goldberg, they are still likely to use it as a storyline on upcoming episodes of NXT.
Author’s take
NXT has been responsible for producing a number of female superstars, and Asuka belongs on that list. Now that the fans are aware of the streak, it would be beneficial for Asuka’s title reign as the stakes are higher.
While Asuka overcoming the streak of Goldberg could end up being a questionable decision, it is something that WWE could pull off. The streak also provides WWE with a platform to let Asuka debut on the main roster.
