From The WWE Rumor Mill: Backstage news regarding Miz and Maryse's Raw announcement
What's the story?
This past Monday during Raw, Intercontinental Champion The Miz and his wife, Maryse, announced they were expecting their first child.
Now, we've got some word as to who knew -- or, more specifically, who didn't know - they were breaking the news live on TV.
In case you didn't know....
Mike 'The Miz and his magnificent wife Maryse have been an on-screen couple since the night after WrestleMania 32 - though they've been married even longer than that.
In fact, the two have been married since 2014.
Their pregnancy announcement came during one of the most back-and-forth-between-shoot-and-work, in which they made the announcement, only to be interrupted by Enzo Amore.
Miz would then go on to verbally tear into Amore in a tirade reminiscent of the one he shouted at Daniel Bryan on Talking Smack months earlier.
The heart of the matter
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer, WWE's "It Couple" kept the news of the pregnancy pretty close to their chest.
In fact, most of the talent and crew didn't find out about it until the rest of the world did - during the promo.
Those that did know, however, apparently felt like it was the perfect opportunity to run a pretty cool angle.
What's next?
Well, for starters, Miz and Maryse are gonna have a baby. So there's that. Obviously, at some point, Maryse is going to have to stop coming to ringside, just to be safe.
But, there's a good chance we'll see some more Miz-Enzo confrontations before No Mercy.
Author's take
First - not that they'll probably see this - but my heartiest congratulations to Mike and Maryse (I call him "Mike" here not because I know him - I don't - but just to emphasize this is on a personal level).
I hope that Maryse has a healthy pregnancy and delivery and I hope Mike spares all of his friends from having to hear the "New Dad Speech" after the baby is born.
It also strikes me as WWE is partially using this as a means to keep Enzo in the spotlight on Raw (outside of 205 Live) until Big Cass gets back from injury.
Despite the alleged backstage heat, WWE still seems high on the Certified G.
