WWE News: Backstage reaction to Dean Ambrose's decision to leave WWE
What's the story?
Earlier this week, major news regarding Dean Ambrose's future in the WWE broke out, as it was noted and officially confirmed by WWE that the former WWE Champion is apparently on his way out of the company once his contract expires after WrestleMania 35.
In case you didn't know...
Dean Ambrose initially signed with the WWE in 2011 as part of the company's then-developmental brand, Florida Championship Wrestling (usually known as FCW) before being eventually promoted to the NXT brand.
In November of 2012, Dean Ambrose made his main roster debut along with former NXT Champion, Seth Rollins, and former FCW Tag Team Champion, Roman Reigns. On their first night on the main roster, the three interfered in the WWE Championship match at Survivor Series when they attacked Ryback. The trio would later reveal themselves to be known as The Shield and would help then WWE Champion, CM Punk to retain his title on several occasions.
After breaking out as a singles star, following the break up of The Shield, Dean Ambrose went on to win the WWE Championship for the first time in his career and by 2017, 'The Lunatic Fringe' would go on to become a Triple Champion and a Grand Slam Champion as well.
The heart of the matter
This past week on Monday Night Raw, Dean Ambrose suffered yet another defeat to his arch-rival, Seth Rollins, however, after the match, Ambrose planned on addressing the WWE Universe but was quickly interrupted and eventually attacked by former Raw Women's Champion, Nia Jax.
Within the next few hours, after Raw had gone off the air, Ambrose would seemingly notify WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon that he would not be renewing his contract with the WWE and later on, WWE themselves would take it to social media to confirm Ambrose's decision.
In a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer, courtesy of Wrestling Inc, Dave Meltzer shed further light on this developing story by claiming that Ambrose's decision to leave the WWE is indeed a real situation and he is indeed leaving the company as soon as his contract expires.
Meltzer also noted that some of the backstage talents were already aware of Ambrose's decision but it was mainly kept as a secret to most of the roster.
On the creative side of things, WWE apparently didn't have any clue that Ambrose would turn down such a lucrative deal. Meltzer also stated that the former WWE Champion isn't happy in terms of creative direction and doesn't care about money.
Lastly, Meltzer also added that Ambrose remains to be good friends with AEW's Chris Jericho and Cody Rhodes.
What's next?
As of right now, judging by WWE's latest social media posts, it does seem like Dean Ambrose is indeed on his way out of the WWE after WrestleMania 35. However, one thing remains to be seen is whether Ambrose will jump ship to AEW or will he be returning to his old Indie roots to promotions such as CZW?
We can only wait and find out.
